CLUE (1985) *REACTION* FIRST TIME WATCHING!

🔪 The butler didn’t do it, but the Petty Pumpkins might've! We graciously accepted the dinner request and unraveled the deliciously wicked mystery of CLUE in a first time watch! Was it Colonel Mustard in the study with the candlestick, or Chey and Wes in the Pumpkin Patch with the killer quips? Either way, the truth is messy, so get ready to soak up every last drop!🩸🕯️🔎🍷

One of the best movies ever! Not only Tim curry, cuz he’s LEGENDARY! but “ flames! 🔥 flames. On the side of my face…” 😂😂😂😂 will never not be funny!

Amanda

I do like the last ending but I choose to believe the "I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife" thing is just a bit he likes to do to fuck with his co-workers who all think he's straight. :D

Antony Oscar

PS Mrs. White resonates IMMEDIATELY.

Caitlin Graham

"I'm not sure how clean everything is if she's blowin' on it" 🤣

Such a fun watch to a great comedy. There's so many iconic people in this film. Thank y'all for watching and posting 🙂

“Spicy Mustard” 🤣 “If y’all wanna see Christopher Loyd NOT being a creep, check out…” 🤣 “Girl, don’t let his Peacock anywhere near you” 🤣🤣 “Honey Bunches of Grope” 🤣🤣🤣 SUCH a fantastic watch with y’all of one of my all-time favorites! Just right for a nice cozy time as we kick off The Best Time of The Year 🎃🍂 I love how much Wes was just eating up the vibes from the very start. Old haunted manor “it was a dark and stormy night” aesthetics are 100% my jam too 🖤 And of course, LOVE that y’all were showing so much love for all the women of Clue too! I was obsessed with them all from the first time I watched it as a kid, but especially Mrs White. lol in fact, I think she kinda influenced me a bit TOO much, considering how I turned out 😂 “the CUNTIEST pairing” observation about her and Wadsworth and the declaration of watching a full movie of them doing anything stole my heart! 😂🥰 Now, to take all this further, I grew up in the 80s (yeah I’m old lol) and I was also obsessed in general with both Madeleine Kahn and Leslie Anne Warren back then (still am!). This is probably my favorite performance from both of them, but you definitely should check out more of their work. As someone else already mentioned, for more Madeline, Young Frankenstein is a must. It’s been a bit since I’ve seen it, but fair warning: Since it’s Mel Brooks, it’s proooobably got a few jokes here and there that might be considered problematic today. But it’s still very much worth watching it, not only for the fantastic, hilarious performances (Terri Garr especially is so good), but it’s also a gorgeous looking film, made very lovingly to look like the Universal monster films from old Hollywood days. And for more Leslie, I have to recommend Victor/Victoria. From the early 80s, it’s a film that is oddly completely overlooked today, as it actually has wonderful messaging about queerness and gender roles. It’s a very lovely film in general, and if you like to hear Julie Andrews sing, then you’re in for several scenes worth of treats. And Leslie Anne Warren is SO funny in it! And speaking of actors I’ve always been obsessed with, omg I LOVE Tim Curry in this soooo much 🥰 I feel like he never got enough moments to shine during his prime, so that makes me love this film even more. But I have to bring it up: No mention of Dr. Frankenfurter, guys? I am just going to fully assume that you’ve seen Rocky Horror…right?…RIGHT? 😅 Oh and one more thing (I know I’ve written a book already lmao), but just have to make sure and double down about Mr. Green’s last line. Because it WOULD be very disappointing to think that they were being literal there! No, as someone else mentioned, this is a joke/commentary on the Lavender Scare of the time, when Senator Joseph McCarthy was on a witch hunt for gays as well as communists (Red Scare) within the government, and it spread to Hollywood and other institutions as well. This is basically what Wadsworth is describing with his sad tale about his wife. It was a very scary time in this country, as you can imagine, and many people’s lives were completely and unfairly ruined (though I guess it’s more appropriate to say “ANOTHER scary time in this country” 😅😣). I wrote more about the politics of this film under that comment, but I’m going to copy paste that here too for more info/in case it’s overlooked: 100%. This whole film is a not so subtle condemnation of Cold War era America, which is why it’s set when it is. It’s filled with outright commentary (saying the FBI has a habit of hiding bodies, the repeated “Communism was just a red herring,” which applies to our excuse of the Domino Theory for entering the Vietnam War and disastrously meddling in Cambodia, etc), but there’s also more subtle touches like Colonel Mustard saying war profiteering was how he made all of his money (an allusion to the US Military Industrial Complex) and yes, Mr. Green’s last line about going home to sleep with his wife in that very wooden, fake, “manly” way in front of his FBI colleagues was definitely an allusion to the Lavender Scare, which was also a part of McCarthyism, which is what all the black listing dialogue is referring to (“Red Scare”). Which is why I love this movie so much - not only is it so hilarious and just such a VIBE, but it’s so clever in its political commentary, as well as its POV on it all being *chef’s kiss* [okay tysm for coming to my ted talk bye!!! 😂😂😂]

Oh SAME, had the worst day on Friday, been trying to decompress and process since. This wonderful time of watching one of my favorite flicks with the guys definitely helped! Glad it helped for you too, and hope you continue to feel better ❤️

Jen Bee

LOVED Madeline Kahn so much! she was one of my favorite people to watch ever, RIP ❤️

So when you said you could tell Mr. Boddy loves the spotlight, the guy who plays him was and is a punk rock band lead singer/front man. I think Wes totally picked up on that energy.

Nadia (Livvycat)

I had the same thought! I actually just watched it again this week. I love Peter Falk as Sam Spade.

Nadia (Livvycat)

Shut. Up! I had the worst panic attack day and this is the perfect treat at the end of it. I love this movie sooo much I’m heaving breathless breaths ♥️ . I was Mrs.White for Halloween in college, hat, bob wig, cunty dress and all! It makes me so happy to see y’all embrace her 💜

Libs

That part was improvised!!

Libs

You guys really have to also watch Murder By Death now

K

RIP Madeline Kahn. She is a real legend

K

Came here to say the same thing, he can't be out in the fbi at the time

Matt E.

I love Mrs White so much. When she’s talking about flames on the side of her face, you can tell Tim Curry is really trying to keep it together and not laugh 😂😂

Chrissy

Don't forget this was during the lavender scare - he would have HAD to say go home and sleep with his wife. My head canon is that he's still gay 🌈

lunasera

sorry I leave multiple comments but I leave them as I'm watching so I don't forget. Another suggestion is YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN with Gene Wilder and mother Madeline Kahn :) Amazingly funny, camp, and beautiful sets.

Whitney Miller

It's funny when you re-watch this movie you catch on to different things. This movie always gives me a headache because it's just so chaotic, but I thought it was really good of the writers/directors to have Wadsworth accidently get drenched in the shower so he would be drenched for the running scene where he tries to figure it out. That way there wasn't continuity error because he was probably just sweating the whole time it made it look like he was still wet. (I have a headache, sorry if that didn't make as much sense as I tried to make it sound.) anyway, just thought it was clever.

Whitney Miller

Loved the residence 😍

LDavis

Oooh Mrs. Peacock reminded me to suggest BABES IN TOYLAND with a young Drew Barrymore and Keanu Reeves. There are musical numbers ;) and it is actually terrifying.

Whitney Miller

I feel like Miss Scarlet was always everyone's favorite. To be fair her card in the game always looked fierce. I never got to play her because my mom always wanted to! LOL. So glad to rewatch this with you guys. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. So fun, so camp, and hilarious. If you're in the mood for more interesting mysteries, The Residence on Netflix was really good. It's a murder mystery set at the White House and the President is gay. Plus, there's several appearances by the iconic dancing queen herself, Kylie Minogue.

DC

Michael McKean is so smoking hot in this movie.

Selina

CLUE a.k.a. The Greatest Movie Ever Made! The first ending is my favorite and Miss Scarlett is Mother.

Joshua Scott

Literally my favorite movie

LDavis

This is the best day of my life!!!! 🥰😍😘

LDavis

I can't keep up with you guys! The content just keeps on coming. I haven't even gotten to Drag Me To Hell or Scary Movie yet, but I'm starting with this one because it's one of my faves and I can't wait to see your reaction.

Lavender Violet

The slapstick in this movie made me laugh so hard when I saw this for the first time. I love how Mrs. Peacock talks.
