YESSSS SO happy y’all have now experienced this amazing classic that helped to establish so much of what we all love about all things ooky, spooky, gothy and horror— and that you loved it too! But I knew you would 😌 Along with a compelling story full of pathos, morality tales and metaphors about the human condition, this movie is SER. VING. The camp, the melodrama, the glamor. Every single actor that gets a close up is a full on diva serving face. Every performance just chewing up the (very grandeur!) scenery. The cinematography said, I’m not happy with simply being beautiful, I want artistry and drama which hasn’t been done before. Truly, there isn’t a wasted moment or shot. It’s just such a masterpiece! And do we even need to talk about The Icon herself? I remember when I watched this for the first time as a little gothic teen, I was enraptured by The Bride from the second she’s revealed…and then so anguished that she’s immediately taken away! BUT, viewing it later, I came to feel like they show her onscreen for EXACTLY the right amount of time. The mystery, the precision afforded by economy, and leaving the audience wanting more were all perfect choices that help make her so iconic. But of course, THE LOOK and the performance do that too! Her strange bird-like movements are so perfect. But that moment where she almost screams when she first sees Frankie (officially referred to as “The Creature” in Shelley’s story, btw) but it doesn’t come out right is one of my all time favorite film moments. And of course, her final hiss!! ICON 💋🖤 Okay, one more thing: I HIGHLY recommend y’all now watch the 1998 movie Gods and Monsters. Directed by the man who later did the film Chicago (a BIG favorite of mine) and produced by Clive Barker (!!!), it depicts James Whale as an older man in the 1950s, dealing with no longer having relevance in Hollywood, being an aging gay man (and the dangers that still existed with that), and being haunted by his past, particularly his time fighting in WW1. I haven’t watched in quite awhile, but I do remember it being a very beautiful, touching, haunting film that was worthy of all the awards it won. It’s also a very psychologically heavy and complex film, just as a heads up. But oh my goodness, I also remember the flashback scenes recreating the filming of this movie to be particularly stunning. Anyways, whether you watch on your own or for the channel, highly recommend!

They don't make character actresses like Una O'Connor anymore. I've always appreciated this film's framing device. It's such a clever and unique way to recap the previous film and then carry on with the sequel. By this time, Boris Karloff had become a major Hollywood star. So much so that he even shared top billing with Warner Oland in 1936's "Charlie Chan at the Opera". Elsa Lanchester is such an icon. With little screen time, she cemented herself as horror royalty.

Tiffany says the exact line in bride of chucky when she stabbed him in the back it’s so sad

The Movie Buff

Such an iconic film. Another brilliant film of the Frankenstein franchise is "House of Frankenstein" 1944 Featuring Boris Karloff in another role I believe. This one is truly worth a watch. Features many surprises.

I love the fact that we collectively decided they became a cute lil couple lol cause I love this ending but also love the pop culture idea we all have of Franky & The Bride being a couple lol

One of the greatest monster movies. Boris Karloff's performance brings a humanity to the Frankenstein Monster. Ive never viewed Karloff's version of the monster as the villain. All the Monster needed was love and we all know he didn't get that in the first movie. Pretorius is the real villain of the movie. Elsa Lanchester is an icon. Dwight Frye who plays Karl also played Fritz in the first movie, and Renfield in DRACULA. Dwight Frye is in more Universal Monster movies as random characters. James Whale loved having bits of comedy in his movies. Una O'Connor who plays Minnie a.k.a. the First Karen, is also some comedy relief in James Whale's INVISIBLE MAN.

Loving this classic horror journey. Can't wait to hopefully see you react to more of these incredible films. Yes, for having such minimal screen time, The Bride became such an iconic image in film history. The power of women. 🎀

The greatest of all the classic horror movies
