But even if they are in the same genre each song and concept and sound and art direction are all different. Which is amazing to me. BTS fits no category. The one thing that is the same is their 100% all out effort. Energy Plus. Perfect in sync choreography. Real emotion. They sing with pure glee. Pure sincerity. They share their heart and soul. The hours they put into rehearsal is crazy. If you remember from The Guide. If they weren't eating and sleeping they were in rehearsal. And their commitment to be the best came from their early days. Their goal. Perfect impressive choreography. From guys with little dance experience is the ironic thing. Jin with no dance experience hired a tutor. After group rehearsal he would go get individual dance lessons. Not kidding. They were a poor almost bankrupt company. Not of the big 3. Had few chances to even be on stage. So their goal was to WOW the audience each time. And they did. Word of mouth. It got around without them having to market themselves. BTS. They are a really amazing exciting new group. There is an official MV for the Japanese version of Airplane pt. 2, otherwise there are multiple live performances and a dance practice!! For this song, it's meant to have traditional Korean influence and 'idol' is what they call kpop artists, and to sum up it's about embracing who they are and not letting others opinions influence them

Others may recommend the 2018 MMA performance, but that's better seen in its entirety with ALL songs, and not just Idol cut out of the middle of it. I recommend a live concert performance for the Love Yourself/Speak Yourself tours, or from the Permission to Dance performances in LA or Las Vegas. This song is amazing live, and even more amazing live and in person - Being one of 50K people screaming "You can't stop me lovin' myself!!!" together is an experience everyone should have.

But it was also their song to celebrate korean culture by adding traditional music, performing in traditional attire etc. and at the same time it was a sarcastic clap back to people saying things like “idols are not artists” and looking down on idols and BTS for falling in that category. Also all CG and effects used in the video was a clapback to all the people criticizing use of CG and visual effects in MVs, so they made an MV full of it💀

BTS made this video so .. chaotic bc they were mocking and clapping back at people who called their stuff cringey. they were basically saying that BTS is too corny and that they’re too extra with their mv’s. some ppl were also accusing them of using green screens, which is false btw. if you guys ever decide to watch their behind the scenes, you’ll notice that they build every single set and do some insane stuff. green screen isn’t even in their vocabulary LMAO. so in this mv, they decided to take it up 10 notches and be extremely EXTRA as a way of basically trying to show that they don’t care and are gonna do what they want. that’s another reason why i love the tannies. they won’t directly shade someone (not bc they’re afraid to but bc they have class), they’ll just put it in a song or mv and expect you to know who they’re referring to 🤣 . cus at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who thinks their stuff is corny, they’re still gonna stay at the top regardless so all that commentary is just adding fuel to their fire and allowing them to want & achieve more and more.

There are many parts and it goes though their different eras and all the stuff they went through to get where they are now. No rush just keep it in mind for when you get further in your BTS journey.

2024-07-18 15:18:28 +0000 UTCI though i might add what "Idol" is about too, among other meaning, this was produced or created when BTS faced a lot of criticisms because of their popularity in the United States. This was the time when they started different TV appearances in the US, performances in BBMAs and AMA, interviews from different radio stations, etc. Antis (bts haters) attacked them by mentioning that they were influenced by Western music just to fit in. You even noticed on the MV that RM is using an aegyo/cute filter, it's his way of telling the haters that he will never listen to them or please them just for them to like him. RM was being attacked by the haters during one of his lives, telling him to stop using a filter. Idol is a song wherein BTS proved the haters that no matter what happen, they will not forget their roots as a Korean (there is a lot of symbolism in relation to Korea). They already proven a lot in the US but their fame stays in their hearts not in their heads. They are also wearing their traditional Korean costume for men on the music video which signifies their love for their country, culture, and tradition.
