The key in painting a convincing nonmetallic metal effect on miniatures is to apply lighting convincingly and create a high-volume contrast. You have to be able to trick the viewers eye into believing that something painted with nonmetallic paints is actually metallic.
Step by step on painting silver NMM:
1. Start with a basecoat of Black.
2. Highlight with Thunderhawk Blue. Use glaze consistency (paint 2:1 water).
3. Glaze with Fenrisian Grey.
4. Add a glaze of Skarsnik Green to create a subtle hint of cold green.
5. Add Ushabti Bone, again, adding a nice hint of beige into the color palette.
6. Add a final highlight with white. Edge highlight with white.
7. The final steps are optional, but I recommend you try it.
- Create a half orb around the lightest parts of the blade to hint a glare (shine) of light. Start with drawing a small half circle with Fenrisian Grey.
- Add a glaze of Yriel Yellow around the half orb.
- Add a glaze of Evil Sunz Scarlet around the half orb. The last two steps allow you to create the glare effect that really sells the shine look.
- Add a dot with white inside of the half orb to showcase the glance of the light.
Really hope you like it!
Stay magical.
