Blue NMM Power Swords

Hi all!

Today I have prepared a Blue NMM Powers Swords tutorial for you. It is extremely simple, as it only involves 6 paints (or 3, if you don't want to create the glimpse half orb). The whole process took me less than 30 minutes, including time for taking pictures of every stage and so on, so I would say you can do it much faster :)

Without further ado:

1. Basecoat with any black paint. If you wish to basecoat with a spray can - that is fine, but after you have done that, still add 1 coat of black paint that you have in a paint pot. It is crucial, as it will allow you to fix any mistakes later by just using the same black color you have in the pot. If you just spray the part with black, your shade of black from the pot will not match the paint from the can and you will end up messing up the final look of the sword.

2. Start adding highlights along the blade, using Calgar Blue in glaze consistency. This is a very important stage and you want to make sure that the surface is very smooth. This will be your foundation in the future. Add the highlights in 2-4 spots on the sword. Make sure to make then uneven in length. I would recommend doing one of the following ratios:

2 spots: 1 long, 1 short

3 spots: 1 long, 2 short

4 spots: 1 long, 2 short, 1 very short

3. Highlight with a 1:1 mix of Calgar Blue and Fenrisian Grey, glaze consistency for the blade highlights and a bit thicker for the edge highlights. Make sure to cover a smaller area than previously, to secure a smooth transition between the colors.

I have decided to also add a power lightning effect on the sword, as at the end of the day, it is indeed, a power sword! I will make a in-depth tutorial on how to do this in the future. For now - the key aspects for doing this step right are: a steady hand (I don't have that but actually, it might be an advantage, as we are looking for uneven, chaotic lines!), patience, a good tip of the brush and paint, that will be in the correct consistency: not too runny and not too thick. I would say it needs to be a 1:1 ration of paint & water.

4, The final step is optional, but I like to add an extra bling to my work. If you would like to try it out... start with sketching a half orb next to the middle of the longest/brightest highlight on your blade, using the brightest color you have used on the sword. In this case, it's a 1:1 mix of Calgar Blue and Fenrisian Grey. Then glaze around the outer edges of the orb, using Yriel Yellow. Follow that by a glaze of 1:1 mix of Yriel Yellow and Evil Sunz Scarlet. The final touch will be adding a small white dot in the middle of the orb (on the edge of the blade).

I really hope you like it! Please share your results once you’ve tried it. Use the #MamikonsWizards hashtag on social media and tag me so I can check out your results 😊
