Hi all!
I’ve decided to make a separate tutorial on NMM for painting axes, as it’s a different surfaces and it would be good to explain the steps for a new shape of weapon. Here are the steps:
1. After the initial basecoat with black, start applying Thunderhawk Blue, glaze consistency (paint 3:1 water). Add it in 2-3 surfaces, making one other highlight (in this case the top one) and one or a few smaller ones.

2. Add a undertone. In this case I have used Ogryn Camo from Citadel in glaze consistency. Add it to just one of the highlights and don’t cover it entirely. It has to be very subtle. Ogryn Camo has a nice, cold feel to it and it add a bit of storytelling to the detail. It might be showing that the creature holding the axe is near some trees or grass, say in the woods.

3. Glaze with a 1:1 mix of Fenrisian Grey and Thunderkawk blue. Make sure to make every highlight smaller, so the previous step is visible. This will allow you to have a smooth transition.

4. Glaze with Fenrisian Grey. You can also edge highlight the entire axe now, to see the direction you are aiming for.

5. Glaze with White (any white will do the job but I have used AK Interactive 3rd Gen White). Reinforce some of the edge highlights to make them pop even more.

6. The last step is optional and it contains adding a blood effect. You don’t have to do it on your axe, but at the end of the day, miniature axes look better with that stuff on them! Use Blood for the Blood God Citadel paint to apply the effect. First draw a few lines with it, then add a few dots here and there.

The axe handle was painted with Mechanicus Standard Grey. The gold NMM seal on the bottom of the axe was painted using Rhinox Hide, Yriel Yellow, Usbati Bone and White. I will make a in-depth tutorial about that soon!
Hope you can test this recipe soon! Please share your results with me through social media by using the #MamikonsWizards hashtag or tagging me in.
