Green Plasma OSL

Hi everyone!

In today's tutorial we have a look at a simple way of creating a OSL effect on your plasma weapons. This tutorial is for airbrush users but I will soon create a OSL tutorial that can be achieved without an airbrush. Let's get into it!

1. Airbrush the plasma areas with white paint.

2. Airbrush the entire OSL area with a 3:1 mix of Yriel Yellow and Scorpion Green.

3. Spray Scorpion Green but only on the outer sides of the OSL. Make sure to add it sparingly, as you can always add more.

4. Add watered down white paint inside the coils and in the 4 holes in the tip of the gun. This will allow us to showcase that the glow is coming from the inside of the plasma coils as the OSL should be brighter nearer the source of it.

5. Glaze with Yriel Yellow, adding it all over the areas previously covered with white.

6. Pick out the edges of the coils with Caliban Green.

That is it! Stay tuned for more OSL tutorials soon!

Hope to see you try these recipes and steps. Please share your work with me using the #MamikonsWizards hashtag on social media. You can also tag me so I can have a look 😉

Keep casting those spells!🧙‍♀️

Cheers,

For plasma glow in general it is crucial to start with a bright basecoat. So you would need to basecoat with white or yellow and only then apply red. Concerning the edges, yes indeed, I’m talking about the dark dot towards the top of the coil. I can’t wait to see what you do with it! I will soon also post a tutorial on how to paint red plasma glow, so look out for that as well!

If I wanted to apply this method for a red plasma, should I use a darker red on the outside and then glaze an orange, or should it be a yellow as well, over the white? When you say to do the edges of the coil in cadian green on the last step, is that that very dark dot towards the top of the coil? I can’t wait to try this method out. I feel like a red glow would be better for my ultramarines though to have that warm versus cool contrast. Or do you think green is suitable? :)

Hey Jeff! Thanks for commenting 😊 I will be posting a tutorial on how to paint OSL without an airbrush too so don’t worry ☺️

Looks great ... I am a brush painter however... looking forward to it
