Secret Golden Demon Project, update #1

Hi all!

Today I'm going to give you an exclusive, Patreon only update on my secret Golden Demon project for Adepticon.

It will be a medium sized diorama. Here is the first glance of it, while it is still shaping up.

It will be showing a Inquisitor and a Sister of Battle (or Battle Sister, as they call them nowadays), standing in a Chapel. It will be a stoic, calm scene, with the drama coming from the faces of the models. I am not yet sure of the Sister model, as there are so many to choose from, but most likely I will use one of the models from the Triumph of Saint Katherine kit.

For the Inquisitor, my inspiration is this amazing artwork.

The only differences will be that I will be using a non-hooded head for maximum expression and the sword holding hand will be exchanged for a book holding one. This will give me a nice canvas to add some freehand symbols and text onto it. Something like this:

As you might have noticed, I never shy away from adding tons of small details all over my pieces. It's not easy and it takes time, but it is always worth it for me. Small details are what makes this art so beautiful to me. That is why I plan on adding many small bits and pieces all over the base.

I will add these little sculptures on the walls. First I will need to cut them out of this Sisters of Battle Rhino and make their sides look good.

And here is the first bit actually already painted:

I've first painted it green, but I did not like it so I repainted it to look like a classic brown treasure chest from the movies.

Here are some medieval looking torches I've made using the hat parts from the Necromunda Redemptionists

Before I start working on a diorama, I like to have a look at the available artwork to get inspired. Here are some examples I've looked at:

When you are working on a competition piece, you have to think about every little detail: the placement of the models, the symbols of the models, what the models represent, what are the characters in the diorama doing, how do they interact... what is the story here? Dioramas are all about storytelling. You have to tell a story with your piece. If you have to explain your piece - it is not a good diorama.

All in all I'm about 10 hours into this project and I estimate at least 200 more.

I hope that I will be able to make it truly special, eye catching, memorable and moving.

Continue the journey with me and see where it leads us!

Thank you for your support!

Best wishes,

Mamikon
