Secret Golden Demon Project, update #2

Hi all!

Another week spent on my Golden Demon project and a lot of progress has been made. Here is how it currently looks (with one small caveat, but I'll get to that later):

I have decided to add 2 imperial columns on both sides of the diorama to showcase that my characters are standing in a massive Gothic building - appropriate to medieval churches in the 41st millenium!

As you can see, the original bit is too long, so I hat to cut it so it could fit perfectly.

Next up, something really challenging - creating a banner and a rug using a sheet of brass.

Getting the banner done was not that hard - first I measured (using just my eyes haha) the size I needed and then I cut it out using scissors. Concerning the size - I wanted the banner to be massive, as it will be one of the 3 focal points of my diorama, alongside with the 2 models standing on the stairs. I also wanted to have some space between the banners and the columns, so I made sure there is a couple of free millimeters on all sides. Then I've added some weathering using a hobby knife. As this is a Sisters of Battle banner - it has to be worn. Sisters love relics and this banner sure is one!

After I've formed the banner, I felt that it needed some additional details to make it more interesting. So I have found this chainsword from a Repentia model and got the fleur de lis symbols from it. This was pretty simple - I've just cut it out and glued it to the top part of the banner.

I've also added two small hangers on the top corners of the banner. Here is the final effect:

Now onto the rug... It took me a lot of time and patience, but I have managed to form it using extreme pressure (finally, being big paid off). I've used the tip of a flathead screwdriver for most of it.

Here is a glance of the two brass elements on the base. It is important to check how every new detail, that you want to add, looks on the piece. You have to make sure that it does not mess up the feeling.

Next up, as mentioned in my previous post, I've cut out these beautiful monuments from the side of a Adepta Sororitas Rhino. This was a meticulous piece of work but it was worth it.

After cutting it out, I've sanded down all of the imperfections and sculpted the missing parts using milliput:

Next, I wanted to add some small stands next to the relic chest from the previous post. I needed something of the perfect size and gothic looking. So I went for a search across my entire studio to find the perfect bit. And surely enough, after about an hour, I've found this gate. I took the bit next to the red arrow.

I've had to cut off the skulls and arrows, sand them down and fill the gaps on the base of them.

Next, a small thing (literally) - I've cut out a Inquisition symbol from a spare Sister's backpack and added it to the book from the Grimaldus kit. My Inquisitor will be wearing it.

Here is how he looks at the moment. I might remove the backpack, but I have not decided yet.

Next are some painted elements. A book, the columns and some purity seals (the text was freehanded using the freehand text tutorial available here, on Patreon)

Here is one more cool piece of artwork I've found while researching for this project. A lot of inspiration can be drawn from it, both for this and future projects.

Let's get back to where we started:

As a hint for the next weeks post - it will be focused on painting the banner. I am already 16 hours into painting a freehand on it and I am documenting it all. Stay tuned for next week.

Thank you for reading and supporting me in general. It is my dream to have more creative freedom one day and you are helping me with this massively.

Keep the magic coming!

Cheers,

Mamikon
