Secret Golden Demon Project, update #4

Hi all!

It’s that time of the week again - Golden Demon update time!

This time we will be having a in-depth look at painting one of the models. In this case it will be the previously showed custom Inquisitor model that I’ve converted.

Before starting almost any project, I search for artwork that inspires me. In this case, when I saw this artwork, I fell in love with it straight away, as it is showing a majestic inquisitor who has seen some sh#t + he is very stoic.

This is exactly what I needed for my diorama - a stoic model with lots of character. I've converted the model using the body from the Espern Locarno model from the Blackstone Fortress box, the face is from the new Astra Militarum Command Squad set, the backpack is a Adepta Sororitas one with some bits added on, the servo skull is from Taddeus the Purifier and the book in the back is from the Grimaldus kit.

Almost always, I begin painting a model from the face. This is because:

1) I really enjoy painting faces.

2) More importantly - face is a focal point of almost any model. It has to be done well, as 60-70% of the time spent looking at a model can be spent on the face. When it comes to my standards of painting faces - I always try to push them, to create better and better results. In this case, I think it's one of the best faces I have ever painted, especially from the technical and cleanliness point of view.

I was able to do the exact level of detailing that I wanted, creating some skin and hair texture, adding two lines of teeth, making the pupils the perfect size (exactly like I intended), adding a dot on top of the pupil on each eye in the top right corner.

But most importantly, I was able to show that the Inquisitor is distressed. That will make more sense when you see the Sister of Battle model that will also be on this diorama...

Next I've painted the book. Pretty simple and straightforward, yet always rewarding to do. I just wanted a clean look too it and that is what I was able to achieve.

Next I've started working on the body itself. I like to add the head with the blutack to see if it all works well. I've started with the most challenging part - TMM gold. I usually like to work with NMM when it comes to Golden Demon, just because I have more control over NMM, but this time I've decided to go with TMM for maximum grim-darkness.

More Progress:

And the finished product (well, almost, as I have to paint the book, servo skull and the backpack! haha).

I am very happy with how he has turned out. It was very challenging to make this miniature look good, as it does not have too many details... But I really hope you like it!

Next up, I will freehand this symbol on the back of his cloak:

It will take a lot of time and if I have to be honest - I am dreading it! But I don't give up so easily...!

Overall, I've spent over 50 hours on this model so far and as I intend to add the symbol and other details, I think the final product will easily go past 80 hours.

That is it for this week's update :) I really hope you like these posts. Next week we will have a look at finishing the Inquisitor model and starting to paint the Sister Model (which is almost done by now - you can see pics of her on the Discord Server if you join the Necromancer tier).

Thank you for reading this far and supporting me! I really appreciate it! :)

Cheers,

Mamikon
