NMM Copper on the Darkoath Chieftain

Hi fellow Wizards and Necromancers!

Time for the third tutorial of the week – it will cover the topic of painting Copper NMM on the Darkoath Chieftain. I've uploaded the PDF version of this tutorial here as well as the classic version below, so everyone should be pleased, hopefully! Let’s get into it.

1. Start by basecoating the scabbard area with Rhinox Hide, layer consistency.

2. The first highlight will be done using a 1:1 mix of Rhinox Hide and Doombull Brown, layer consistency. As you can see, highlights have been applied on all of the edges and on the top part of the buckle, and that’s where you should place them as well. Make sure to make these highlights wide enough, so that you can fit the next highlights inside of them, so there is a smooth transition between the colours.

3. The next highlight will be done using a 1:1:1 mix of Rhinox Hide, Doombull Brown and Bugmans Glow, glaze consistency. The placement of the highlights should be the same as in the previous step.

4. The next highlight will be done using a 1:1:3 mix of Rhinox Hide, Doombull Brown and Bugmans Glow, glaze consistency. The placement of the highlights should be the same as in the previous step (but smaller, to achieve a smooth transition between the colours).

5. The next highlight will be done using a 1:1 mix of Bugmans Glow and Ushabti Bone, glaze consistency. The placement of the highlights should be the same as in the previous step, but focusing on a smaller area, to make it pop and showcase, that the top part is getting most of the lighting.

6. The next highlight will be done Ushabti Bone, glaze consistency. The placement of the highlights should be the same as in the previous step, but focusing on just the very top area.

7. The final highlight should be done using Ivory (from AK Interactive), layer consistency, on the top facing edges. This will increase the contrast and make the details pop even more.

8. The final step will be simple – we will add some weathering that can usually be spotted on copper – Oxidation. We will do this using Temple Guard Blue, glaze consistency. Only add it in a few places – deeper recesses, so the weathering does not overwhelm the copper but is just a nice addition to the finished result.

Here is a collage of all of the steps for convenience:

This tutorial should be very useful for anyone who wants to achieve a very beautiful, strong, NMM Copper on their miniatures.

This tutorial is the last, 4th of 4 PDF tutorials about painting the legendary Darkoath Chieftain that I have prepared.

Thank you very much for supporting me – it means the world to me! I dream of being able to paint and make tutorials full time, so if you like my Patreon – please tell your friends about it. It would make a massive difference to me and hopefully it will be very beneficial for your friends :)

Best wishes,

Mamikon
