Hi fellow Wizards and Necromancers!
Time for the third tutorial of the week – it will cover the topic of painting Gold NMM on the Darkoath Chieftain. I've uploaded the PDF version of this tutorial here as well as the classic version below, so everyone should be pleased, hopefully! Let’s get into it.
1. Start by basecoating the gold areas with a 1:1mix of Doombull Brown and Mournfang Brown, layer consistency.

2. The first highlight will be done, using a 1:1 mix of Mournfang Brown and Yriel Yellow, layer consistency. As you can see, the arrows are pointing at the areas that should be receiving the highlights, as if we imagine that the light source is above (from the sun, for example), these areas would get the brightest.

3. Highlight all of the previously highlighted areas but make the each highlight smaller in width, so that a smooth transition between the color gradients can be achieved. Use a 1:1:1 mix of, Mournfang Brown, Yriel Yellow and Ushabti Bone, layer consistency.

4. Edge highlight all of the edges with the previous mix.

5. Highlight all of the previously highlighted areas using a 1:1:3 mix of, Mournfang Brown, Yriel Yellow and Ushabti Bone, layer consistency.

6. Highlight the middle part of every highlight area with pure Ushabti Bone, layer consistency. Follow that by a edge highlight of all of the top facing edges with layer consistency Ushabti Bone as well.

And here is the final result (with the blade and gem also fished for a more pleasing look).

Here is a collage of all of the steps for convenience:

This tutorial should be very useful for anyone who wants to achieve a very vibrant, strong gold NMM on their miniatures.
This tutorial is the second of 4 PDF tutorials about painting the legendary Darkoath Chieftain that I have prepared. The next ones will cover the topics of painting green leather scabbards and NMM copper. You can expect to see them on my Patreon soon :)
Thank you very much for supporting me – it means the world to me! I dream of being able to paint and make tutorials full time, so if you like my Patreon – please tell your friends about it. It would make a massive difference to me and hopefully it will be very beneficial for your friends :)
Best wishes,
Mamikon
