Hi fellow Wizards and Necromancers!
In this tutorial I will teach you how to paint beautiful red weapons. The miniature we will use for this tutorial will be the Genestealer Cult Primus. A PDF with this tutorial is attached to this post so you can use that if you want. Let’s get into it!
1. Over a basecoat of black, add a chunky/thick edge highlight over all of the edges using Mephiston Red, glaze* consistency. Make the edge highlight wide enough so that you can fit the following highlights inside of it.

2. Continue building on the highlights with the same width but layer** consistency. The changes are easily noticeable when you quickly switch between Step 1. and Step. 2

3. Follow all of the lines with layer** consistency Evil SunzScarlet. Make sure that this highlight is thinner in width than the last one, so that there is a smooth transition between the colours.

4. Next up, use layer** consistency Troll Slayer Orange, layer consistency to create a bright highlight on the red.

5. Next, add a highlight using a 1:1 mix of Troll Slayer Orange and Ivory from AK Interactive on the very brightest points. Follow the arrows. Use layer** consistency for this.

6. Add more, brighter highlights using a 1:2 mix of layer** consistency Troll Slayer Orange and Ivory. Also add a few scratches on the blade, using the same colour and same consistency

7. Edge highlight all of the “eye” looking areas with Warpstone Glow, layer** consistency.

8. Add brighter highlights to the green parts using a 1:1 mix of YrielYellow and Warpstoneglow, layer** consistency. Follow the lines for the logic of highlight placement.

9. Add a spot highlight using layer** consistency Ivory on the tips of the green areas. This will make them pop and look shiny.

Here are some shots of the finished product:

Here is a collage of all of the steps for convenience:

This tutorial should be very useful for anyone who wants to achieve a very beautiful, strong red on their miniatures.
This tutorial is the second one on this miniature and hopefully you will see a few more in the future, as I really like this one and think it has loads of potential!
Thank you very much for supporting me – it means the world to me! I dream of being able to paint and make tutorials full time, so if you like my Patreon – please tell your friends about it. It would make a massive difference to me and hopefully it will be very beneficial for your friends :)
Best wishes,
Mamikon
