Red Glowing Eye Lenses with OSL: Raven Guard Terminator

Hi fellow Wizards and Necromancers!

In this tutorial I will teach you how to paint Red Glowing Eye Lenses with OSL on a Terminator. The miniature I will use for this tutorial is one of the new Space Marine Terminators from the Warhammer 40K 10th Edition Starter Set - Leviathan. The PDF version of this tutorial is attached below. Let’s get into the tutorial!

1. Start with a basecoat Rhinox Hide, layer* consistency. At this point we only want to cover the eye lenses themselves.

2. Apply two coats of glazes* of Mephiston Red on eye lenses and around them, dragging the paint towards the eye lenses. We do it this way for two reasons:

A) While glazing, the paint pigment dries brightest where you end your brushstroke, not where you start it.

B) We want the brightest point to be under the eye lenses, as they are the light source. The light source should always be the brightest.

3. Repeat the process from the last step but using Evil Sunz Scarlet: apply 2 coats of glazes*, dragging the paint towards the eye lenses but this time also edge highlight the eye lenses themselves.

4. Repeat the process from the last step but using a 1:1 mix of White and Evil Sunz Scarlet. Remember to make every new highlight smaller in width (thinner) than the last one, so that the previous coat is still visible. This will allow you to achieve a smooth transition between the colors.

5. Add 3 tiny dots using white, layer* consistency, on the 3 edges of every eye lens. Treat it as a triangle and put a white dot on every single one of the 3 edges it has. This will showcase the light bouncing off the glass eyes of the Terminator.

6. Add a single, very soft glaze* of Troll Slayer Orange over the entire surface to bring back some of that orangey-red glow from the red eye lenses.
