Robes and Freehand on the Plague Monk from Skabikk's Plaguepack

Hi fellow Wizards and Necromancers!

In this tutorial we will start painting the beautiful Plague Monk model from the new Skabikk Plaguepack. I will show you how to paint the robes and the freehand. Explanation on layer and glaze consistency is on the last slide. A PDF version of this tutorial is also available for your convenience - it is attached below. Let’s get into the tutorial!

1. We will start with a layer consistency basecoat of Straken Green. Apply 2 thin (layer consistency) coats to achieve a good, smooth result.

2. Next up, we will add shading in the recesses with a 1:1 mix of Straken Green and Rhinox Hide, glaze consistency. 3 coats of this thin glaze will usually be needed to achieve a smooth result. Let every coat dry out completely before moving to the next one.

3. We will follow that with more shading in the recesses with a 1:1 mix of Straken Green and Abaddon Black, glaze consistency. 2 coats of this thin glaze will usually be needed to achieve a smooth result.

4. Next, we will add a highlight on all of the raised areas of the robes with Nurgling Green, glaze consistency. You can replace Nurgling Green with a 2:1 mix of Straken Green and Krieg Khaki. Apply it in 2-3 coats.

5. We will continue building the highlights with a 1:1 mix of Straken Green and Kreig Khaki, glaze consistency. Apply 2 coats of this mix. As always, try to fit every next highlight into the previous one, leaving some of the previous one still showing. This will create a smooth transition between the colors.

6. Add 2-3 coats of a 1:2 mix of Straken Green and Krieg Khaki, glaze consistency. Focus on the top part of the robes. We will also add glaze consistency black into the holes in the robes.

7. Add 2-3 coats of a Krieg Khaki, glaze consistency. Focus on the very top part of the robes.

8. In this stew we will freehand the small white triangles. There is no life hack and no dark magic here – you just need to get some layer consistency Ivory (from AK Interactive) color onto your brush and start sketching the lines. I recommend starting with the shapes of the triangles first, and then adding the inside of every triangle. If you mess up, you can always go back with Straken Green and tidy it up.

9. Next, we will add some shading on the bottom half of the robes, with glaze consistency Rhinox Hide. 2-3 coats of this will do just fine.

10. In the final step we will use Krieg Khaki in layer consistency to outline edges of the holes in the robes.

And here is a collage
of 9/10 steps for convenience.

Thank you very much for supporting me – it means the world to me! I dream of being able to paint and make tutorials full time, so if you like my Patreon – please tell your friends about it. It would make a massive difference to me and hopefully it will be beneficial for your friends too :)

*Layer consistently = paint mixed in a 1:1 ratio with water.

*Glaze consistently = paint mixed in a 1:3 ratio with water.

Best wishes,

This is the first of your Patreon tutorials I've consumed (I just signed up because I saw you were doing these models) and I really like the picture format. It's easier to see the details and the actual layers in the close up photos compared to video.
