Gotrek and his Base - Tutorials Coming Soon!

Here is how the piece looked like before the painting started:

The model is inspired by this iconic piece of artwork by the legendary Mark Gibbons:

I wanted to create a cool display base with a fairly large amount of details, that would be fitting for a legendary character like Gotrek. I wanted it to tell a story.

I loved this plastic base (from a Stormcast character of some sort, can’t remember the name) so I’ve just added some skulls and bricks around it and a Chaos shield plate with a small banner attached to it. I have made the banner part with some champagne foliage.

I’ve also already painted the base and documented the whole process, of course 😏

I wanted the details on the base pop just enough to look great but not too much, so that they don’t steal attention from Gotrek. That’s why I’ve used toned down colors and mixed darker tones to everything.

Overall I’m extremely happy with the result so far as I wanted to paint something to a display level and create a potential competition piece for the future. Not for Golden Demon of course as this is a 3rd party produced miniature but maybe for SMC or MSS 🙂
