RoE Devlog 8

Hey everyone, with the month coming to a close I wanted to share what we've been up to since our release a few weeks back.  We're excited to finally finish the prologue, but realized we would be looking at a longer than usual release window to include the last of our backlog content.  In order to get everything out sooner we decided to add one more release between 0.09 and 0.10 to address only what we haven't been able to get to until now.  We're going to call it 0.095, and it's going to be a lot more than just a housekeeping update.  Version 0.095 will include another h-scene, several new renders and scenes, and the last of our planned features, optimizations, and placeholder assets.  We've already made some great progress.

The gallery is getting a major revamp to support two new systems.  The first is a progress tracker for an optional hidden object game built into the story.  We'll be sprinkling 7 effigies per character into various backgrounds of scenes throughout the story.  Collecting them will unlock unique bonus scenes in the replay gallery.  Here's what that progress tracker looks like for Eryn:

The feature is already implemented and working and the first effigy is already hidden in the game, so happy hunting.  As far as the bonus scenes themselves, down the line we're considering adding a unique support tier to help us design them.  Also a cheat code will be able to unlock those gallery scenes as well, so if you just want to see the content you'll be able to.  The next major tweak to the gallery involved adding a section for Biorn.  It's still under construction, but when we're done his sprite will be viewable just like the other characters.  Since he doesn't have scenes to replay, we're using that space for a journal feature instead.  The journal will be an in-game encyclopedia as well as a tracker for character disposition and tracking your story route.

This morning we inked 2 custom fonts for the journal.  One is a standard script and the other is a cypher for entries that have yet to be unlocked.  I think they both came out pretty good:

The backlog assets are also coming along nicely, we completed Lucine's farm, which means we're down to just one last placeholder.

We have a lot done so far but still need the last 2 backgrounds, 2 new renders, 1 new h-scene, 6 small reworks on existing renders, and 5 sample pics for content. I'm thinking we'll make it through about 95% of that by the tail end of Feb and just roll whatever is left into v0.10 instead. After 0.10 we may be able to switch to bigger monthly releases.
