Starting with why Will was taken, the upside down origins, why the upside down is stuck on 1983 etc. I recommend watching the teaser trailer because it's insane (they somehow managed to not give spoilers despite it being 2 minutes long) Vecna didn't "create" the Mind Flayer per se, The Mind Flayer was always an entity in the other realm. He just shaped it into a spider. Now, this episode makes it seem like Vecna controls the Mind Flayer but I personally believe the Mind Flayer acts on its own accord. Him and Vecna may be connected cause of the hive mind but I'd like it more if the Mind Flayer had some sort of agency rather than just being a puppet to Vecna.
