I don't know if this will be the end of printed comics (personally, I stopped buying floppies long ago and went full digital) but maybe this current situation is a blessing in disguise because the way this market is organized is insane and stupid. The fact that the destinies of the 2 biggest publishing companies (and therefore, the destinies of all the other ones) is dependent on the good will of one unique distribushing company baffles me. The monopoly of Diamonds is damaging to the market. Imao this monopoly is one third of the trinity of problems in this market. The other ones are the market focusing almost exclusively on pre-ordering and the Comic Books Stores being the major place where the consumer can buy comics.

The comics industry is already a niche market, and I don't believe it could survive not producing for an extended period. I get the impression from conversations I've had with people in favor of the local comic shops that they believe this pandemic will end in a month or two, but it's far more likely that we will be dealing with this until at least winter. If DC and Marvel decided to stop creating comics for over six months, I don't believe they would ever recover, too many things are already vying for people's attention, and whatever market share they have will take an even bigger hit if they just do nothing.

I'm sure the guy that prints all the maps and brochures for the Disney theme parks could handle a few comics.
