New Show, Old Show
Added 2021-01-17 02:28:53 +0000 UTCSo you may have noticed Comic Line is one of our "dead" shows. Honestly, I love that show and I think it helps to play an important role in the online conversation about comics, etc. But there were some problems.
First of all, I think there are too many people on the show. Four doesn't seem like much, but honestly it's the perfect number for one person to get marginalized or slip into the background. Something that I didn't intend when I created the show. In fact, quite the opposite! I really wanted to make a show that contributed to the ongoing conversation and highlighted my intelligent cohosts. But there's a way to do that and make a tighter, more watchable, better made show.
So we've cut the hosts in half. Comic Line is now a two host series, and it's my intent to rotate hosts often to get varied opinions and make more interesting programming.
Second thing we did was change the set. Make it it's own space so you know what you're getting between this and GBU.
Third thing was lower the length. Eps were getting really long, hard to cut, and honestly impossible to produce. Nobody wanted to sit for a show if it meant adding another hour or two to shooting.
Fourth was adding a dedicated alternate angle. I've been meaning to do this literally since we got the HCX (the main camera), and I think we managed to do a successful test this past week. It wasn't without its problems though; the alternate angle camera was blown out and too overexposed. I managed to turn it into something kind of fun and kinda artistic, but I'm not sure whether I want to keep it or try to fix it for good. You'll know it when you see it.
Fifth was more ambient music to match the softer tone for the series. We wanted to create a more comfortable, intimate environment with this second go at the show (third, honestly).
The sixth thing we're doing is changing the name. I haven't picked one but Comic Line doesn't really fit anymore, and I kind of don't feel like it ever did. I'm still brainstorming ideas, but I think we're definitely dropping the original name.
And finally, it's going to be its own podcast. So when we reach more than five episodes, it'll go up on Spotify. I'll also try to grab sponsors and just push it as a new kind of comics podcast.
So there we have it. Old show, made new. Launching in a week or two. First episode will be available here first, then to everyone a week later. If you'd like to share show name ideas, we'd very much welcome them!
Thanks everyone for making this possible. Can't wait to show you what's next!

2021-01-17 02:58:02 +0000 UTCI feel like the title is a good opportunity to play on the word "panel." **EDIT**: I've slept on it and I think something like "Panel Layouts" would be a good fit. Maybe with a subtitle like "A Comic Book Conversation"
