Changes and YOU!
Added 2021-11-28 18:11:31 +0000 UTCYou folks are the most dedicated audience out there, so when I have these little thoughts I figure I ought to share them with you.
I had a list of changes and ideas I wanted to implement in 2021, and as we quickly approach 2022, I'm looking back on that list. What we were able to do, what we couldn't or didn't do, and of course the big thing-- what the list couldn't predict that YouTube made us change.
So here's the list of what we did accomplish:
- Hammer out dedicated sets for specific shows
- Improve the audio podcast: updated icon, tailored intros, recorded updates, better music, separate Off the Rack
- Add HD alternate angles in pre-recorded shows (BI, GBU)
- Retool Comic Line: 2 hosts, more intimate setting, better research, new name
- GBU Spotlight episode: highlight a single standout issue
- an informal set with one other person to discuss very big current events
- What if we moved Back Issues theme to the end of the episode, so the end fades into the song? Gives obtrusive clickables a place to go, keeps the song, but opens the show immediately.
- Elseworlds moved to every other week; creator interviews weeks
That last one we did early on, and as the creator interviews dried up/underperformed, we went back to the old ways. I'm still not convinced we did the right thing going back.
Here's the list of things we didn't do this year:
- Location visits
- Online retail store
- Harbor Patrol Season 2
- Incorporate the new main logo design sitewide
- Hit 100k subs
I think we did a lot of fun stuff this year, but overall I'm really dissatisfied with where ComicPop is in 2022. So I wanted to ask you-- do you agree? Where did we fall, where did we succeed, and where do you want to see ComicPop over the next year? Without you, there is no ComicPop, so I really feel like it's important to bring you into the discussion and get some fresh eyes on this problem. I mean, hey! Maybe I'm imagining things. But based on our numbers and my gut, I'm betting I'm not.
Thanks everyone!

2021-11-29 20:08:21 +0000 UTCSeeing that last item on the "Here's the list of things we didn't do this year:" list just makes me more determined than ever! If you don't mind, I'm looking through this very comment section for ideas about how to better spread the word about you guys.

2021-11-29 18:11:59 +0000 UTCYou guys out out the best comic book related content out there. I love everything you do and I especially love that you are constantly trying to improve the quality of what you do and engage with the audience. Back Issues is always so enjoyable and I’ve loved a lot of the episodes you’ve done this year like X of Swords and Onslaught Redux. I would love to see you guys cover some more classic Avengers stories in the future like the Korvac Saga or Avengers Forever. Elseworlds Exchange and your creator interviews have all been awesome. I like how you’ve been able to get creators on Off the Rack streams as well. That’s been very nice. I would like to see more episodes of Comic Line. I also would like The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly episodes to come out more consistently, but I know that’s a bit much with your difficult recording schedules. I’m just putting that out there to say if it is possible at all, I would certainly enjoy it. Otherwise, you guys are still killing it as always. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for next year. Excited for you guys to finally reach 10k! ❤️

My only suggestion is that you consider revisiting some of the comics you did early in in the channel’s history for Back Issues. There are a lot of historically popular comics that you did early on that I suspect you may have different takes on, or more elaborative takes, like Secret Invasion.

2021-11-28 21:50:03 +0000 UTCI know nothing about YouTube, so take my comments with a massive grain of salt. Also forgive if it's obvious or unhelpful -- It appears that ComicPop's views per video are similar to Comicstorians. Given the difference in the number of subscribers, that's really impressive. That indicates that ComicPop is doing something good/successful and retaining subscribers/viewers week after week. The issue then is more how to increase subscribers... Perhaps diversifying the content/types of shows somehow in the next year? (ComicPop shorts is a good idea -- it's different from the other long form reviews/interviews) I'm a relatively new subscriber..but for me, I watch ComicPop bc Sal and Tiffany's level/quality of research, analysis, and insight/critique is the best on YT. Plus the crew's personalities are entertaining..That is what makes CP stand out amongst the others.

2021-11-28 20:36:20 +0000 UTCI don't have much to say it sucks that this year hasn't been to your liking I still can't believe y'all haven't hit 100k it's sus a.f. I personally loved the content I appreciate the hard work done of my favorite episodes of back issues were according to the numbers some of the "worse" of this year the only thing I kinda missed was the month long spooktaculer for Halloween but I understand that it's a busy time with cons and other events other than that I'd enjoy more gbu, comic line and of course HARBOR PATROL! As for comic line if that was the name you were gonna stick with I'd enjoy more but I like how well though out and how much research goes into it so I understand it not being a consistent show. The live shows are great no complaints. I wish I could just say fuck YouTubes algorithm and just make the content you wanna create. Not saying your aren't doing that just sucks like how star wars doesn't perform as well as other I love everything y'all covered on star wars and I know that there are other stories characters or universes that y'all have to steer away from because they don't perform well. But I do understand this is how you make a living and every piece of content you do put out is amazing you can tell y'all enjoy doing this ....more please that's my note you know please continue to make more

2021-11-28 19:12:01 +0000 UTCI love the idea of having GBU spotlights on standout single issues. Despite how well it preformed, the Spider-man Daredevil Trial of Venom was one of my favorites.

2021-11-28 18:46:20 +0000 UTCI use ComicPop as an example of the extraordinary and amazing things that can be done using online media. You produce a constant stream of tailored content that no one else provides to a devoted audience. You do it without security, (and I’m sure with infuriation,) on a third party provider, (YouTube.) You are amazing and deserve every penny of the Patreon dollars! In terms of your content, I think it’s kinda perfect. The back issues are always really entertaining. Off The Rack is a great show. Elseworlds gives the possibility of really interesting and wacky conversations. If I had a ‘wishlist,’ there wouldn’t be much on it! Maybe a on back issues playlists to watch content in an order that makes sense, (marvel events in order, avengers Stories in order etc.) That’s about it! Beyond that, you guys are smashing it! :-)

2021-11-28 18:21:12 +0000 UTCIt’s been a fun year, lots of changes but it all seemed natural. I love GBU so I hope the regular show still comes around every once and a while. Moving the theme song is a good idea. When I first found your channel the song didn’t catch my interest and it took a few clicks before I got hooked. Now it’s part of the history but I can see it being slow for a start to what are generally long episodes. Gotta hook em early!

2021-11-28 18:20:18 +0000 UTCIf you want to help push that 100K mark I am going to reiterate my suggestion of having a QR code that directs people to your channel and or a really good vid on the channel that can be placed in comic book shops and requesting the willing among the pop nation to share them with their shops. Also, Harbor Patrol was super fun and I will reiterate my suggestion of the old school Marvel Super Hero rules as a fun and easy system to try.
