Chapter 55 - The Galaxy-class
Added 2024-10-23 12:00:04 +0000 UTCIT is interesting, when you think about it, how the galaxy-class was never used like it was supposed to be. Of course, part of that was because of show reasons, at least with the Enterprise, but we know for a fact that there the USS Odyssey was available and near enough to go into the gamma quadrant to fight the Dominion. They weren't on some 20 plus year deep space mission.

“The Enterprise, a recent design with much greater firepower, is actually an outlier and even then the ship’s not being utilized in the way it was intended. The galaxy-class was intended for long-range, long-term, deep space scientific and exploration assignments far from the Federation’s borders, hence the inclusion of family aboard, but it’s never been deployed in that way. It’s never been allowed to go that far afield, to fulfill that role, in my opinion because Starfleet has faced too many threats that the rest of the antiquated fleet can’t handle and its firepower has been desperately needed at home.”

There is that too. I believe there was more than a few episodes that implied the Galaxy-class was a bit buggy. I agree though that Starfleet had to keep the Galaxy and Excelsior class handy for threats.

2024-10-24 03:24:56 +0000 UTCI would argue that the galaxy class was also being held back on reaching her full potential till years later, due lack of development in certain technologies
