On the one hand, yeah, he's going to massively benefit from it in terms of goodwill and influence, but on the other, he denied them a valuable lesson that they could have learned from.
What do you guys think? Did he do the Federation more good than harm, or more harm than good?

Great argument. Wolf 359 was removed, far from Earth. This time the people of Earth could probably look up into the sky and see the battle taking place. That's a powerful thing. I would not be surprised if Earth got an orbital defense net and shielding. That way, if another enemy manages to bypass the traditional defenses, Earth has a last defense.

2024-07-18 19:15:40 +0000 UTCI would say good as I can't see the lose of the Federation capital and the Federation civilian government doing any good as I don't see the members worlds accepting Starfleet running the Federation for long. And while there may be some in the Federation Government resistant to the militarization of Starfleet, however unlike Wolf 359 which occurred a bit away from Earth with the exception the shuttles from the Mars defense perimeter, however this battle occurred atleast for a large part in sol, so Earth got a front row seat to the extended battle, and actually seeing the battle will having an effect on people, especially those in the Academy.
