179 - The Terrifier Franchise

Jen and Tim get mad enough to talk about All Hallow’s Eve and Terrifier (the first one) for almost two hours!

Jen really punted when she said that scary clowns go back to John Wayne Gacy— according to Smithsonian Magazine, clowns have been creepy (and annoying) for centuries!

This Bloom County strip from the story arc Jen mentioned illustrates the one-time societal loathing directed at mimes pretty well.

For that previous mime discussion, listen to our Eat and Run episode with special guest Bitter Karella!

Ah, a fellow con attendee! I think you're probably right, Kyle— fans will take their splatter wherever they can get it.

Have You Seen This

I'm not an expert or anything, but I have also been to several horror cons since the Terrifier movies came out (including some with the cast+crew as guests). I think it boils down to A) fans like the look and performance of Art and B) fans *really* like the gore. I think it's mainly that second one: splatter-horror seems to fallen somewhat out of fashion, and the Terrifier franchise is surfing on a wave of fan enthusiasm for modern films doing the blood and guts of yesteryear. (I should say that this is coming from someone who also finds them underwhelming.)
