2024-06-30 10:55:53 +0000 UTCI can't deny I love all the characters I've created at Kingswood, but Mikey is definitely one that I'm really proud of. While I always write my stories with very little pre-planning of storylines, the overarching plot for Mikey over the seven books was one of the few times I really planned ahead. His mental health journey is a joy to explore, and it's wonderful seeing him deal with it and grow up. This year definitely is a big turning point for him.

Those are traumatic years to kids and feeling inferior to your peers is really difficult to deal with. And of course, to kids that age, everything is a big deal and a bigger issue than world hunger. I know for me, getting naked in the gym locker room was unpleasant until I started developing and realized I compared okay to most of my peers. There is always going to be a Nicky in the group and a David/Avery and everyone else in between, but yeah at that age, that is of little consequence.
