Adam wrote many great scenes describing Zachari and Nik's relationship and his brilliant writing has inspired me once more to make some art. He even came up with a theme song! ❤ With his blessing, I want to share the fruit of our combined efforts in between pages so expect "The Zachari & Nik Show" to pop up every now and then.
Dress code
Short story by Adam Lunter
The grayish purple plushie in the shape of a wolf that was floating at Nik’s eye-level by the refrigerator took the lollipop out of its mouth and pointed it at Nik who was still standing there naked as the day he was born trying to keep his eyes from bugging out of his head.
“Okay, let’s get down to business,” he said. “I’m Zachari and I’m your guardian faerie.”
Nik found his voice and his personality in that moment and both snapped back into place like puzzle pieces. “I’m Nik and I don’t care.”
“Well, aren’t you a charmer,” Zachari said gruffly as he put the lollipop back in his mouth. He looked Nik up and down, then raised one eyebrow. “Uh... you always walk around here in the buff like that?”
“My home, my rules,” Nik said.
“At least I’ve got the dress code right,” Zachari observed, rubbing his belly. “Naked and furry.”
“Look, I don’t know what the hell is going on here,” Nik said after a beat of silence, “but this has already been the weirdest day of my life and I don’t think I can take a lot more, so why don’t you just get your ass back to FAO Schwartz or wherever it is you came from?”
“Sorry pal,” Zachari said. “Like I said, you’ve been chosen.” His wings picked up speed and he floated past Nik and out of the kitchen.
“I’m in Hell,” Nik muttered to the empty room. “I must be.”
