Hey everyone!
This FAQ was made for your convenience and it includes the questions I get asked most often.

To simplify navigation, the questions have been split into three sections. Questions about the Patreon page, questions about the comic, and questions about me.

This post will be updated in time when necessary. Feel free to comment or reach out with any question you feel should be added to the list.

About Patreon

• I’m not quite 18 yet, can I still join?

No. Come back when you're 18+.

• How do payments work?

We work with a “subscription” method. You pay for your first pledge as soon as you join the community and then, you will be billed again on the same day every month. We used to work on a "pay upfront" basis so all patrons who were there before the switch are still billed on the first of every month.

• What do I get for pledging?

My gratitude, first and foremost. Of course, you will get access to benefits depending on the tier you choose to pledge at. I suggest you consult the “My Membership” tab to learn more.

• Where is my discount code?

You receive it by email when you join, but it can also be found under the “My Membership” tab. I also leave a link to the discount post on the main page. Keep in mind that it only applies for patrons in the “Private Booth” tier and above.

• I don’t have access to a post which I should be able to see. What should I do?

Send me a private message and I’ll verify it myself.

• Is it worth it?

That depends on you. If you like what I do and want me to be able to keep doing it, then I would say yes, it is.

• What is the best tier?

That depends on you. If you’re here for the NSFW stuff, it starts in “The Bar” tier. The “Private Booth” tier has access to all the finished artwork, including bonus scenes, and sketches, as well as discounts on merch. The “VIP Lounge” tier gives you monthly physical rewards and exclusive behind-the-scenes previews too.

• Can I get a refund?

Unless there was a legitimate error, no.

Please keep in mind that this is a patronage platform, not a store. The tier benefits are perks you receive to thank you for your monthly support, they're not physical goods that you can buy and return. If you’re not happy with your decision to join, you may cancel your pledge for the future at any time and leave your feedback.

• Can I send you tips?

Much appreciated. If you wish to give more than what’s included in your pledge, you can do so by adjusting your pledge to the amount you wish to contribute, even if it’s not an exact tier number.

• I’m in the “VIP Lounge” tier. How do I get my physical rewards?

Near the end of every month, I make a post for VIPs with a selection of gifts (mostly prints). You simply need to follow the instructions in the post and comment your selection on that post for me to send it to you. I usually ship them about a week or two after the end of the month. Make sure your address is added to your Patreon account because it’s the one I’ll use to send the rewards.

• I want to join the “VIP Lounge” tier, but I don't live in North America. Won't it be too expensive for you to send me my rewards?

Yes, it can get very expensive depending on the destination country, but I do not charge you for shipping. The way I usually work in these situations is that I'll reach out to you in private and offer you an arrangement where I will send you some bonus gifts if you allow me to ship out the rewards as a bundle every few months to save on shipping so it's a win-win situation.

Please note that if you live in Europe, on top of your address, you need to provide your phone number in your private profile. My carrier (Chit Chats) requires it.

• Did you know your NSFW content is leaked on *that* site?

There are some people in my community who are dedicated to leaking parts of my content and although I find that extremely insulting and demotivating, I don’t have the time or desire to launch a witch hunt.

Keep in mind that it’s the people who choose to genuinely support me who keep CB alive, those are the people who deserve my time and efforts.

• Posts won’t load, comments don’t appear, etc. Help!

If Patreon is getting glitchy on you, I recommend deleting and reinstalling the app if you’re on your phone. If you’re using a computer, try closing and reopening your browser. Sometimes, rebooting your computer/phone can do the trick too. If nothing else works, I suggest seeking assistance from the Patreon Help Center. If Patreon’s servers are down, there’s not much I can do about it, but it usually doesn’t last long.

• You don’t post as frequently as I thought, can’t you draw faster?

I’m flattered that you crave more Cabaret Bara in your life, but I am a one-man-band and there’s only so much I can manage in a work week. I normally post at the very least once a week but if you want more, I encourage you to check out my backlog of content, there’s a lot to enjoy there, I promise.

Do keep in mind that if you're in one of the lower tiers, I may have posted bonuses for a higher tier. If I'm going to be inactive for a week or more, I'll always make an announcement about it.

About the comic

• What is the Cabaret Bara comic about?

It follows the adventures of Finn, a dim-witted, but well meaning guy who works at his brother’s host club and turns into a magical boy superhero called Ero Lovely to fight evil from time to time. It contains adult themes and drama, but it’s often sexy, and comedic with the occasional sprinkle of fantasy.

If you're thirsty for hot men and a fan of magical girl anime, chances are you will enjoy the comic.

• Where is the story set?

In a fantasy version of Montréal, Canada where sex work is legal and society is sex positive. And also magic and stuff.

• Is Finn a self-insert?

No. I do not like self-inserts as a practice, but I have cameoed as a background character here and there. Good luck finding me!

• How does the Cabaret Bara club work?

In the comics, Cabaret Bara is a private host club. Guests pay to spend time there with the host of their choice and sometimes partake in very hands-on activities with them. If you are familiar with host clubs in Japan, think that, but with sexual activity and strippers involved.

• Wait… Does that mean they’re wh*res?

First of all, in this community, we respect sex workers. The hosts of Cabaret Bara are considered sex workers just like porn actors, and strippers are too. However, they do not get paid for sexual services specifically, they’re paid to offer company to their guests, the sexual favors are a “bonus” for your enjoyment.

• What’s the comic schedule?

I try my best to work as fast as I can and alternate between art series and comics from time to time to keep things fresh. Normally, you can expect 1 to 3 updates per week depending on the ongoing projects.

• Can my OC be featured?

When I do have guest spots available for fan characters, I would normally make a "casting call" announcement on our Discord server. I usually prioritize very active members of the community or characters who are very compelling to me. But there's never any guarantee that I'll cast your OC or self-insert. This is not a service you can buy.

• Are the cosplay series canon?

Nope. If I followed the canon, some of the characters would never agree to wear the costumes. (*cough* Pavel *cough*)

• Can I cosplay one of your characters or use one of your cosplay designs?

Please do! I love to see those. If you do decide to cosplay one of my designs, I'd love for you to tag me so I can share your work on social media and you are more than welcome to share your work with our Discord community as well.

• I notice they never wear condoms. Shouldn’t you encourage safe sex?

In the Cabaret Bara Universe, STIs are not a thing. It is a fantasy world with werewolves and faeries after all. My comic is intended for an adult audience and should not be considered sex education.

• I’ve seen female characters in your comic. Don’t you think using the term “Bara” is misleading?

The comic is centered around a bunch of beefy gay dudes but it doesn't mean there aren't other people out there - including women (and less beefy dudes).

I would like to note that "not being attracted to women" and "being disgusted by women" are very different things. I would also like to add that trans men are men and I'm not offering this space up for debate. Any hint of transphobia or misogyny will be deleted from comments. 

• Can’t you integrate more body diversity in your characters?

I think there’s already a lot by the bara genre standard, but if you wanna see characters like Henry or Firouz more often, you are welcome to share them around online to get them more attention. I tend to give the spotlight to characters who are requested a lot by my patrons.

• Why do the first three episodes look so different?

I have shifted my focus from illustration to storytelling and my style has evolved in that direction.

• Will you sell paperback comics?

Perhaps. 👀

• Did you know that the term "Bara" is offensive?

The term "Bara" (literally translating to "rose") has been used as a derogatory term to refer to gay men in Japan. Think of it as the equivalent to calling a man "fruit" or "pansy". Just like the term "queer" which also holds derogatory meaning, it is sometimes used by people who would've been targeted by that word. In this case, "Bara" refers to a genre of manga that is made by gay men for gay men as opposed to Yaoi and BL which are usually targeted towards a female demographic. The term "Gei Manga" is also used to describe the same genre. It is also widely used online to describe a specific genre of erotic gay art that terms like "gay art" or "queer art" fail to evoke on their own.

You are 100% entitled to your feelings towards the word. Just like you are allowed to be offended by gay people using the word "queer" or like you're allowed to think that putting pineapple on pizza is cultural appropriation.

My personal point of view on it is that using the term "Bara" is the best way to describe this type of art and ensure that it reaches the audience that actually seeks it. I also think that people all over the world contributing to the art form does not diminish or parody the genre, but actually adds to it and enrich it.

And on that note: no, I will not change the name of the club, the comic, or the branding.

Short answer: No

Longer answer: Not right now. I used to, but the comic and other CB projects are taking all my time. I am not closed to the idea of taking commissions again in the future when/if I have a chance.

• Do you do SFW art professionally as well?

I used to, but Cabaret Bara is taking all my time now and I like it that way.

• Do you do art trades or collabs?

Sometimes, when I’m inspired to do so. If you're making your own bara comic, a crossover can be a tempting idea... But I can't make any promises, we need to talk first.

•Where’s the best place to follow you?

Here. It’s the one place that has not banned me yet.

• I’m hot, can you draw me?

I'm flattered you want to offer yourself as a model, but I must say there are many hot people online, this isn’t an accomplishment that justifies demanding free work from me. I encourage you to commission an artist you like instead of trying to score a free portrait.

• Can I send you nudes?

Please don’t. I already receive too many unsolicited pictures on a daily basis, but thank you for at least asking first. Consent is key.

• I got your address from an order, can I send you a gift?

Please don’t. The return address you see on most of the stuff I send you isn’t my home, it’s a shipping center for my carrier.
