Backstage at the Rendezvous

Here's a behind-the-scenes view from my dressing room at the show tonight!

But let's take a moment to talk about last-minute gigs.

I was booked to perform in tonight's show earlier this week. The producer inherited a time-slot when another show was unable to happen and contacted me on the 19th (last Thursday) to see if I would be interested in being a part of a space themed show. I try my damndest to say yes to opportunities when they happen and had the date free, so I agreed before I had even considered which acts would fit. Fortunately, there are a few relevant routines in my repertoire, so by the time I got the email requesting tech information I had dusted off my Starfleet uniform (a figure of speech, I'd *never* let that get dusty) and made sure the correct stack of Bradbury novels were in my show bag (I have one pile for reading and one for biting, licking, and generally abusing for the sake of art).  

It took some hard hitting on the last minute  promotion, but we had a fair audience and everyone walked out with a little bit more money in our pockets for the work we put in. The show itself turned out  really well - it was an honor to share the stage with Candy Apples and Whisper De Corvo, Mercury Divine is a very attentive kitten. Violet Deville is an excellent producer to work with and does a lot of rad con stuff. I know it sounds like I'm just gushing, but it was kind of a dream line up in terms of both talent and professional attitude. I feel like I've reached a point over the years where I know who I like to work with and try to trim the fat as much as possible. It's also nice to know that such talented people are professional enough to be able to pull together one Hell of a show on barely a week's notice. 

The moral of the story is: Take advantage of opportunities when they come along, but know who is worth your time to work with.
