I have a secret soft spot for super trashy pop songs. Bonus points if they are remixed to be disgustingly dancey. The argument could be made that as a DJ these things count as "research" but the truth is that last night at Neighbours was the first time I've played some of my favorite jams outside of my car. That being said, if there's anyone who shares my willingness to bounce and bop to the beat, it's the Drag community, and the only thing that feels better than rocking out is seeing a packed floor of people feeling that same happiness. There's a whole thing I could go into here about the brain chemistry behind music and why certain beats/styles invoke feelings, but it can all be summed up as "some songs are scientifically designed to make you feel good and created in a studio to be churned out as good feelings for profit" and if you're going to be intentionally fucking with your head to instigate good feelings, there are way worse things you could do to yourself than dance like an idiot to a Top 40 Pop Remix. I'll be back to Neighbours next Tuesday to spin alongside DJ Jades (who taps into a much more 80's vein to balance my assembly-line-made trash) between the performances. Meanwhile, enjoy this ridiculously dancey remix that makes me uncontrollably shake my hips back and forth (well actually it's more of a front to back twerk kind of motion).
