WUBALUBADUBDUB! An Incomplete Cosplay

This weekend I had the honor of shooting with Roy and Margot of Penman Imagery and fellow burlesque extraordinaire Whisper de Corvo, and while it really sucked to get up at 8am so I could shower and roll out the door to later be covered in a Tempura-based paint that I'm still washing out of my hair, the images that came out of said shoot are phenomenal. Before we got to the really messy stuff, or rather as Whisper de Corvo was being painted up, Roy suggested we do a "warm up" and had encouraged us both to bring outfits we wanted shots in or any promo stuff we could use. I'm not one to waste an opportunity for extra promo shots, but I drew a blank for what I could bring. Most of the costumey clothing I have has already been shot before, or would require a whole shoot of it's own for the trouble it is to maneuver. But I do have a mostly-assembled Rick Sanchez cosplay, the best pieces of which are some props that the wonderful Tyler Holmes assembled for me, and of course aren't even in this picture but will be shown off in ones that are still being edited.Naturally, the idea for this cosplay came about as a burlesque number. Any outfit I can strip out of becomes a "business expense" that will "pay for itself" and that is a very dangerous thing.  I started thinking about what a Femme Rick would look like, what s/he would wear that would line up with the idea of a sexy woman but still show that attributes that make it recognizably Rick.

Some time ago a friend of mine decided that after a year of performance burlesque just wasn't for her and gifted me several garbage bags worth of clothing that I have been slowly redistributing to other performers (after pulling a few rad items for myself, of course). In this bag and not yet at a forever home was that beautiful blue corset that you see pictured above. It fit my needs perfectly - it's the exact shade of blue, it's recognizably feminine, very burlesque style, and easy to strip out of. Matched with a girl-cut costume lab coat I already have, and my costume is halfway there! In this picture, I'm wearing a black leather pencil skirt that is more fetish-y than office wear, but I wanted to do a skirt rather than pants. That's the current quest in this cosplay because I know that a spray-in color is going to be the most effective way to turn my hair blue and after this test run I *really* like the messy bun rather than getting a chop wig. So now comes the hard part of finding a beige pencil skirt that looks reasonably sexy and can be stripped out of. Until then, I've gotta find a way to transport these pods...Stay tuned for more Rick cosplay photos and some covered-in-paint shots!
