My Oh My What a Weekend

This past weekend was one of the busiest (and most rewarding) I have had in some time.
Thursday was Bongs & Thongs. This show took months of planning. Quazie and I met up in January after I had secured the Rendezvous for April 20th. This was the first time the two of us had sat down since Tails from the Crypt at the start of 2015.  That show (Tails) was such a disaster in a number of ways, and I vowed that I wouldn't throw together a large scale burlesque show until I could really get my shit together. Which took about 2 years, but was worth it. We had about 40 people submit in the show and could only accept 8, but the two of us sat down with our Stage Manager over some Mexican food and spent several hours weighing the pros and cons of each applicant. It was hard and there were a few people who got very upset that they weren't cast, but the final show was so phenomenal. I set aside money so that I would be able to pay everyone a fair wage, knowing it might come at my own cost. Somehow I got performers that I never expected to apply to my show, although I made sure to give some new people a chance.
Then it was making arrangements with photographers, putting off designing the poster, somehow having it turn out wonderfully. Ticket sales had me nervous and then...
We sold out the show. Ticket sales doubled in the last 24 hours from 15 to 33. The venue packed in 65 people and we had to turn away some at the door.
It was so magical, even after my seamstress wasn't able to complete my costume in time and my initial attempt at a duct tape corset failed horribly at 5am. Even after my stage hand dropped out last minute and I had to call in some friends. But we made shit work and everything came together so wonderfully. The crew kept complimenting how organized things were (swoon), cast members told me they felt like I actually cared about them (more swoon), the show went so well and I'm so happy about all the hard work myself and others put in paying off. Sent in an email asking after October, we will see what the future holds for more amazingness! Stay tuned.
