Em sent him the beat with his verse (from his version with Royce). So JayZ already knew what Em's verse what going to be like. And he still couldn't even level with him. Then Em re-recorded his verse and just changed the "He's jigga-jigg-jigg-jiggy and I'm the sinister..." line. That's what makes this song even more legendary. I'll never understand how people can rate JayZ as high as Em. But Stevie did a perfect job explaining what JayZ is all about (the box metaphore).

This was for Royce's debut album but Interscope wouldn't allow 2 Em songs and Royce chose "Rock City." Jay got this Renegade and Couldn't top it. I remember all the news after slim shady l.p. and during Marshal matters l.p. about the court cases with several people and the higher ups in government completely slaying his music for "negative" influence.... What other rapper.. or act/band has had to deal with that??? I can think of one off the top of my head-marilyn Manson but no where near the heights of Eminem

People are often shocked to learn he did them. Renegade, Patiently Waiting, The Way I AM and Till I Collapse are always the ones that come to mind to me. There are SO MANY he did. He actually did way more solo production work back then that what he does now. He likes to focus on lyricism now more than beat.

Jay DEFINITELY didn't rewrite anything....because he wrote second.....this was originally a track Em did with Royce, and Em literally just removed Royce's verses and sent his unchanged over to Jay (except the Jigga jigga - he scratched over Royce's name. Other than that, his whole 2 verses are 100% untouched). I'll never understand the people who say "Jay won on content because he's giving you his experience" - like, did you not listen?...Em's giving you HIS experience too, just with more pen game and an iconic flow&cadence.... Em fucking breezed through that win and the whole thing sounded effortless to him.
