Rose didn't "make up" those things, she just based it on the new identity she made to fix her past mistakes. All the things about rose coming to earth and discovering the life already here is true, but it was just Pink diamond shape shifting. In the end she said "Soon it will only be Rose" and so it was. It wasn't a charade, she just threw away her past identity as Pink diamond. Just like irl a person would change their name to fit their identity better. Rose exists because Pink Diamond regrets wanting a colony, as that decision of hers basically doomed earth

In my opinion, the pink diamond twist kinda ruins parts of the show for me. Mainly how much it recontextualises pearl’s character. She was always so anti authority / anti diamond but all along she was kinda just following her diamond’s wishes. It kinda ruins rose quartz and pearls characters for me.

Yeah it sucks. CN seemed so invested in killing Steven universe, and considering how many fans turned on it after having been strung along with huge expectations that could never ever be met by what was ultimately a children's show, one could argue they succeeded in a way. It's good to see folks are still willing to go back to it and enjoy it for what it is instead of what they'd hoped it might be

Couldn’t have said this better myself. The extensive time between episodes dropping was agonizing. I enjoyed discussing theories with my friends but that was about it. Every time we got an episode it was like a giving a tiny crumb to starving fans, with no “next meal” in sight. It was rough. SU Future all came out within a few months tho 🤔

You said you wondered what it was like for people who watched it as it aired, and honestly? It was a worse experience. Cartoon Network was really, let's say "anxious" about a show with so much LGBTQ representation and just completely hecked up the airing schedule. You could go months or even over a year between episodes, and only get a handful of them at a time. Not only did that make it hard to follow for the average viewer, it meant fans had *so much time* to theorize and ponder and hypothesize and wish and hope... Of course nothing could live up to that much hype. A lot of people really felt disappointed by the show overall. When you binge it, a cute Sadie episode is fun. When you've waited a year for lore and might have to wait another for more, it's torture. I love these reactions because it's a chance to see the show as it should have been seen through new eyes. Thanks for sharing!

aight so I will say that there are actual Rose Quartzes in the show. But you see that in the room where Yellow sings that song to Blue that they've all been bubbled, or seemingly all of them I guess. I think it was just a precautionary measure.
