Basically how Steven Universe Future came to be was Cartoon Network originally went to Rebecca Sugar while she was working on original Steven Season 5 and told her there would likely be no more season pickups, meaning she would have to wrap up the story in season 5 even though she expected to have more time. The original season 5 would’ve ended around reunited, but due to Rebecca campaigning hard for a few extra episodes just so she could give her satisfying ending anyways, they gave her the 5 extra episodes that became the finale. Finally after all that happened and they finished writing the finale and all that, Cartoon Network ordered the movie another season of Universe anyways. So what they decided to do with the extra episodes that they had now since they already wrapped up the main story was use the time for closure to plot threads and character arcs and tell a story about Stevens mental health! It must’ve been a nightmare working through all these circumstances and making a beautiful work of art but I truly do think it made for a great epilogue even if it wasn’t the original plan!!

I always got the sense damaging and having her first pearl taken away made a big impact on Pink Diamond. In Steven's dream memories, he saw them being close friends, so having her damaged beyond repair because of Pink's destructive impulsivity and then taken away to be White's was probably the first time she really had to deal with personal consequences for her actions that weren't just Yellow and Blue scolding her or locking her up. Also it was maybe one of the first times she felt bad for behavior toward another "lesser" gem since the diamonds weren't exactly respectful of others in general. She must have tried to get a bit more control of herself after that, seeing as how she got new pearl privileges and eventually even her own first colony. I don't think Pink was the most powerful diamond. I think she was just the one with the least control over herself. I bet any of the others could probably scream the walls down too, but they had more self-control than Pink.

I'm giving future 10/10. some say that some things come out of nowhere and I can not disagree more. I loved this ending more than I than any other ending to any other show. I think it's nearly perfect

yeah at the time of season 5 they thought that all they had left was that & then the movie, but about halfway thru making the movie future got greenlit. so future was made with the full intention of being the ending.
