So I found this as an interesting doubles coincidence or its some em guienius shit in the last lines of this track and the album which he shouts out his two producers dre and s1 and mentions the year 2050. "Dre whack beethoven s1 2050"
Beethoven baptized 17 dec 1770
Album 18 dec 2020
S1 just a name drop, or beethoven symphony no. 1 double which was first performed in 1800.
Then 2050 only thing I got is a year but thats 30 years from now and em will be pushing 80, so him dre and s1 going till ems into his 80's a call back to id rather be 80 year old me than 20 year old you which I've noticed he has mentioned a few other lines in the album leading toward that idea of being at the top still at 80.

I believe Em said himself, the beat has to speak to him in order to wanna rap on it.

When it comes beats, I honestly think some of the “whack” beats are used are so he can create that unique pocket and climb all over it with his cadence, so a lot don’t come off as appealing bc they aren’t simple and they bounce all over so he can literally murder them, hard to explain without the right words, Knox Hill explains it in a few videos of his

This is a shot at the rapper ( juice) .. em lost to hime back in 97 i think, in a rap battle ..juice recently dissed em in a freestyle, and em is warning him" now a got the juice wouldn't beef if i was you"

4 different beat switches. I think it's chronicling 4 different eras of Em's sound? Maybe?

lmaoooo idk why ppl would say that. He doesn't choose beats to get ppl to focus on his bars. He chooses the beats that inspire him to write, like u implied. & so a lot of them tend to be rly unorthodox as a result, probably bc he gets bored & is inspired to create new flow patterns on interesting instrumentals that don't sound like ur typical hard beat

With Em's beef with MGK, Ja, Benzino It was like that line from bagpipes from bagdad, "You are gonna be a permanent fixture into my lyrical mixture" That means, he is and will be making an example out of you and are a part of his book of rhymes. Look at Christopher Reeve, he dropped his name so many times early in his career. He stopped with him tho.

No. I think he went through a phase (between 2010 - 2018 until Kamikaze) in which he just liked beats that the majority of the Hip-Hop culture (and that includes his own fans) didn't like.
And if you think about it, it also coincides with some of the worst songs he's ever made in terms of how his voice sounded and the flow.
After Revival he started to pay more attention to what people were saying on the Internet, he even became sort of 'obsessed' with that, and it's no wonder that now he uses DA GOT THAT DOP, ILLA, PREEMO, ETC instead of fucking Rick Rubin.

so how is it stupid to think that when he does use a wacky beat, it's on purpose? your comment only further supports the theory your comment was supposed to be against

St Andrew’s Hall in in Detroit, now called The Shelter I believe, is the name of the venue he uses in 8 mile. He also save the music hall from closing years ago.

The production on Side B is Godly. The best Production on any Eminem album.
But that theory about Eminem choosing wacky beats on purpose is stupid. We're talking about the same man who made Lose Yourself, 8 Mile Road, Sing For The Moment, Till I Collapse, White America, Square Dance, I'm Back, Yellow Brick Road, The Ringer, Fight Music and many other amazing tracks in which the beats are out of this world.

No way he picks beats he thinks are wack, you're right! He's a perfectionist. I'm glad you still acknowledge his skill when the beat isn't your style. Some stupid peephole just disregard everything he says if they don't like the beat.

Another solid reaction, SK.
To answer your question: he's referring to the 97 Rap Olympics where he came in second to chicago rapper Juice. The clips from those rap olympics are the same that are popular on YouTube and appeared in the 'Defiant Ones', which you reacted to.
Its worth noting, Juice is actually a fantastic emcee. Smooth delivery, multi-syllable rhyme schemes and was one of the best in the game off the top. Em has actually said that there was no dishonor in losing to Juice back then. I encourage you to check "Sincerely" by Juice or some of his freestyle clips such as when he appeared on the wake up show. Might be worth a patreon request.
