You are right Stevie, these songs hit on another level once you got Em's history. Glad you been caught up haha. This is one of those songs where the words themselves are more important than how he said it, so powerful. I feel you on the black mums thing though, it's the same in our culture (my parents from the sub-continent), my mum or dad would not hesitate to whip my ass if I ran around listening to Eminem haha Side note, the multi-syllabic rhyming throughout this song is actually nuts. It's so effortless that you don't even notice it. That's the biggest difference between old Em and new Em, the technical skills were always there but they took a backseat to the lyrics. It's flipped now

Eminem hit the world on a personal level. At the time rappers werent hitting you on a personal level. Tupac and biggie did but Eminem came out and really had some profound lyrics. Things he said really resonated with the youth in 2002 on this album. I know because I was there. I was the kids he speaks about vining to a rap record. I did put him on a pedestal he spoke to me in those songs. I felt his pain coming from a fucked up up bringing and living in the hood. I knew what he was talking about when he said he didn’t have a dime or looking for a bag of chips or a honey bun to get by. I went through shit like that. He was just different.

This 'feel' track, and many others, on this album is what drew in a whole new fanbase!! It wasn't just Rap fans anymore, this album went mainstream!!! Chart topping album for 2002. I can't speak for all women, but these type of songs are what allowed us to see the real Marshall while Shady was put aside. The man has layers and sharing his heart with the world means a lot to a lot of people. Plus using a mega Rock beat from Aerosmith helped drews us in! Em be clever like that🤪
