Back then, he wasn't as closely guarded and hyper-protective of his privacy so he let his fire out more freely...Then at some point he came to the realisation the more he put himself out there the more people wanted MORE from him and the more prison-like his fame became...so he started pulling back. He's still the walking talking definition of 'clout', but he refuses to engage nowadays, so he's able to have a somewhat normalish private life at the same time.
