It was my favourite part of the day, for sure! It was a much needed relief after driving along 8-mile, swinging onto Dresden street and that local trailer park in the 8-mile movie. The moving feelings that came with that Historic Cemetery was much better than the feelings of fear that took over in those parts... it's definitely the most intimidating neighbourhood I've driven through😬😳

Same. Last year I was in Detroit on business, took a day to check out Em's old hot spots and went to Woodlawn Cemetery. Proof's plaque is inside the chapel which is obviously reserved for Detroit's finest as the Hallway is lined in Marble plaques of other famous people like Rosa Parks and Matilda Dodge (I learned - one of the richest women in North America during that time:). The Chapel is beautiful and public access was easily granted via check in at the office - they give you a key!! So of course I went in, as I sat on the pew and took a minute to reflect on the day of Proof's funeral and what unfolded on the news, a heaviness took over and would be unavoidable for any Stan, as we know Proof was his friend, brother, father - his world. I don't know where you live, but if you ever get the chance to go to Woodlawn Cemetery, it's surprisingly beautiful, like a well preserved Historic Museum! I was extremely impressed with Woodlawn Cemetery and the Chapel, considering the neighbourhood. The place sits on 140 acres and the wealth that once thrived in that neighbourhood is still evident today, it's a remarkable landmark. Highly recommended for any Stan:)

I was all over this, and proofs death back when it happened and I had the same feeling bro. That was EM’s best friend his brother. I can’t imagine what he felt when proof really died. I’m sure he can’t watch that music video these days.

Yeah its fucking eerie as fuck and Ive always wondered if Em can listen to this song or watch the video. It must only add to the trauma..
The only good thing is Em was seriously heavy into drugs by this album so there is a really good chance he doesnt even remember this haha.. he has said he doesnt remember large chunks of this time period..
Sad as fuck. Proof died because of senseless violence in a bar fight but the similarities are still sad as fuck.
The song itself is a pretty big sign of maturity from Em when you consider the run he was on before this with diss tracks haha
I swear I am getting off the internet soon

Toy soldiers 2004. Proof died 5/22/2006. I hear the scene at the hospital was almost identical but proof was DOA so if you hear the song arose, Eminem talks about “falling across his body not able to save him” so I imagine the pain he felt made him just collapsed on Proof, holding him and his heart literally breaking as he laid across Proofs body. Couple of nerdy kids that found each other growing up and proof took him under his wing. Gave him a place to stay when Ems mom kicked him out, gave him some New Nike shoes for schools, and really just loved Marshall for who he was. Proof had all the connections and knew that Marshall could battle with anyone. I can’t imagine losing my best friend over a fucking fight at the pool table, but Marshal said rumor was proof just whipped out his pistol and some shots were fired. Marshall knowing Proof as well as he did, said there was no way he just whipped out and started blasting because he would’ve fought first before shooting. I don’t think we know the whole truth to what went down but from what I know of proof and read about, he was for sure a guy who would’ve fought with his fist before a gun. When you got eminem as your best friend, you should have dudes around you with security detail so they can legally kill whoever is starting shit and keep your friends safe. You got the money there is no shame in having security detail that is armed and allowed to defend you. Don’t risk your life or your friends if people act stupid. Use your money to have professionals handle that for you. If he did, we would still have proof, and probably a few more fantastic hits, but the loss of Proof had put him in a bad place where the Percocet, Ambien, Clonazepam, Xanax, Etc. Had him doing way too many of those songs that are funny for one listen, but not legendary. RIP Proof, RIA drug addict Marshall, and Thank you Marshall and Yela for that Best Friend Verse. BEST VERSE BAR NONE! Think about all the greats we lost over stupid shit. Pac, Big, Proof, Jam Master J, Fat Pat, Big L, XXXTentacion, Nipsy Hustle, Smoke, King Von, Dolla, Big Hawk, and A stinger not murdered but Juice was legit a fucking huge star in the making. You don’t believe me, watch his Cipher on Sway. Stay alive guys, we can’t listen to the value to add to the game if you’re fighting with guns. Shit, do it old school and ask Dana White to give you the octagon for 20 mins. Take an ass whoopin, shake hands and swallow your pride. Nothing wrong with throwing hands to squash the beef and taking an L. I respect that much more than shooting someone. All you gotta do is pull the trigger. Toe that line with that same energy and you’ll get respect win or lose. Rickson Gracie was a man among children. He walked up and slapped a Dude on the beach like a bitch, let the man get squared up and beat that ass. Found out a Japanese fighter broke in his gym to fight him. Took his sons ten speed, taped his hands on the way with duct tape and fucked him up. He had the video in his house but hasn’t released it. How fucking hard is that?? One of the baddest men on the planet flys to Brazil, breaks in your gym to fight you, breaks his face, and won’t release the tape.

I don't know for sure but I'm guessing this may of been after Proof was jumped and the severity of the situation became real. I think Proof was portraying Bugz who was the 6th member of D-12
Patrick Watts
2021-02-19 19:04:11 +0000 UTC
Yeah no way Em can watch this video after what happened to Proof. Bugz was the 6th member of D12, he was shot and killed and then Em took his place in the group. Having his picture at the end was a way to show him love and say that they've already lost people like that. Btw, in the beginning of the song, when Em says "my intentions were good, I went through my whole career without ever mentionin-" it cuts off, even in the explicit version. The word that's cut is "Suge", you can tell cuz it matches the rhyme and he says it when performing this song in concert. Suge tried to get Em killed twice, according Em's ex-bodygaurd. Outta respect for Dre, Em never names or disses Suge in any released tracks. Great reaction Stevie!

The whole point at the time was let’s put proof in this music video to get the point across I don’t want one of my people dying because of this beef shit especially proof. And one could argue that Eminem went in so hard on these fools they couldn’t beat him with the mic so they took it there, gave him his worst nightmare. There’s also the theory that he had a lot of pull and was making a lot of songs against the government. There’s also the theory it’s just Detroit and these things can happen. 🤷♂️

And to think, Benzino comes out with a track right after this calling Em a coward for wanting to put an end to the all the beefing and possibility of loved ones dying over said beef. Bugz was the 6th member of the group but got into an argument in a park in Detroit, he was shot 3 times then ran over by a car.

The video is just Em foreshadowing what could happen to the people he loves if he continues these beefs with Ja rule and Benzino. The whole song is him saying I’m done with these beefs, I’m moving on before someone gets badly hurt. And so proof is just enacting what could happen if em doesn’t end the beefs.
It was just a coincidence that a couple years later proof was really shot and killed. RIP.
