Stage 263 - Save the Princess (Code inside this post)

CODE TO PLAY: 12545

Play it here: https://www.monkeyhappy.com/0263.html

Ad-FREE Walkthrough video only for Patrons: https://youtu.be/eypFDQ9JDcM

Hi everyone :) Thanks so much for your support. As you know, I've had issues with people trying to spread the code to new stages on my youtube videos and facebook page. This led me to have a conversation with you guys about the possibility of releasing the code to the general public after 2 weeks as it is inevitable that it will spread across the internet anyway.

Some of you were suggesting ideas such as logging in to play and so on, but after long consideration I realised that no matter how much effort I would put into trying to keep the stages locked and only playable by a few, it was a battle I wasn't going to win. I've had people take my games before and rebrand them as their own. This danger was going to multiply here as the reward of getting a game only played by a very small number of people to go public under their own branding was creating a huge incentive for the thieves.

So the new idea is only Patrons will get access to the code for 2 weeks, you'll also get a AD-FREE walkthrough video and a huge THANK YOU from me for your generosity and support. Then, after 2 weeks the code will be made public.

The 2 weeks is long enough for me to hold down the fort and delete the codes being spread on my social media pages and to stop other websites from publishing the stages with the code.

I've had many emails asking me for the code by people who were fans but simply couldn't afford it. I've had parents with a down-syndrome child who were fans of my games wanting to play and not being able to. This new system will enable everyone to play eventually while still rewarding my awesome Patrons.

I hope you, my Patrons are not upset at me for this decision and I hope you keep supporting me so I can keep creating these longer stages for you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Robin Vencel

Both me and my 5 yo son absolutely love your game! Thank you soooo much for all the time and effort you put into it! <3

Thanks Damen :) I am happy to do my own thing. I was never one to work for someone else, that's why I make these. I get to be creative and not get told by anyone what I should or shouldn't do. I get to make decisions and therefore any victory or failure is completely my own. The only ones who get to judge is you guys, and that's the way I like it :)

Thanks Nicholas, but I think it's just perspective. Looking at it from one angle I am flattered that people are desperate to play my games and so are seeking out the codes. I also know the power of net, and it's really a battle I wouldn't win :) I'd rather focus my time on creating for you guys :)

I guess I'm not as giving a person as you are, Robin. I'd be trying to track down who is giving away the codes. Good on you for being a good person.

How some studio hasn't picked you up to do a feature length game I have no idea, lot of creative effort goes into these

Damen

Great to hear :) I'm very happy you're enjoying them.

I just love the long stages. Been playing for years, every now and then starting from the very first stage again.

Great Game. I am happy to be supporting my favorite Monkeys, and I can see this makes sense.

Thank you so much Scott, thanks for the message and thank you for your support.

Hi Robin! I'm going to trust that you have the best plan for this. I didn't support to keep others away from your work. I certainly have freely benefited from others' patronage (not unethically, though), so I don't have any problems with other people eventually benefiting from mine. I don't do Patreon much at all, so I specifically wanted to support your work. Don't sweat it, and keep up the awesome work!

Hi Vedran, Thank you for your message. The early access works the same way as before, it means that Patrons are the only ones that will get the code from me in the first 2 weeks and I'll delete all spreading of the code of my social media. I can hold down the fort for 2 weeks. The thing I was really worried about more is if I kept the stages completely locked then eventually someone was going to take them, rebrand them and release them as their own. This would be highly rewarding for the person as no one but my Patrons would have played them yet. I know it's not a perfect situation I I thank you for taking the time to take part in this conversation. I hope you know I mean well for everyone involved and I really do value my Patrons. If you have any ideas how I could reward my Patrons to give them value please let me know :)

You're looking wrongly at this. It's not a "battle to win". Unless you're a bank or a similar institution, protecting your work is about significantly reducing the amount of abuse at a reasonable cost (usually, the cost is the effort you invest). sure, some will abuse it, but there is a difference between million people abusing what 100 pay for and 100 abusing what 1000 pay for. The early access is, IMO, useless, as the URLs can and probably will be shared just as the codes are. The way you're doing your content protecion now, I don't really see much difference between "equally available for all" and "Patreons are in some way special". Not complaining here, just stating the obvious. Also, being pragmatical, I ask myself "why am I paying for something that's normally free"? It feels a bit silly, since I'm not that big of a fan to just support a creator of a - objectively speaking - completely free stuff. Don't get this as a threat; I'm not cancelling my subscription, at least not for now, but I'd expect a certain number of your Patreons to see it that way. As for the people asking politely, I find it hard to believe that $4/mo is expensive for anyone with access to the internet ($4 less than 2 loafs of bread in the USA), but it's your call whether you let them them in or not. I don't mind, but I also wouldn't base my future decisions around their convenience, because - like I said before - you already provide over 250 free levels, plus 2 new every week.

Hi Robin, It's a pity you needed to take steps to safeguard your work against people undermining it, but I think your decision is a good one; and I respect your social ethic in wishing to make your games freely available to people who can't afford to contribute at this time. I would guess other Patrons feel similarly, and I hope you have the support you need to continue creating these wonderful games.

This is a fair move! Thank you for creating my favorite cyber relaxation!
