He also said in an interview back in 2016 when he freestyles he said his exact words was if it's not off the top of the Dome or you have to memorize something then it's not freestyle!

He does say after this, still on air with Sway, that it was all a real freestyle, and that he'd just woken up. Dont forget how crazy that Kick Off Freestyle was! So, either he CAN freestyle this lyrically, or that one was written too, imo.

He makes it sound like it’s off the top because he knows what a freestyle is supposed to sound like. Even the Paul Rosenberg line at the beginning was something he already thought of. He didn’t just make that up. That’s not to take away from the fact that it’s dope af but if you listen to a lot of his appearances on different shows he kicks verses that he’s recorded that are supposed to be “freestyles”.

2021-03-18 23:09:51 +0000 UTCalright 1. eminem did not say that this was or was not a freestyle thats just the tag on the video. 2. technically it was a freestyle by the original definition. witch is to just get up and start kicking rhymes. dont matter if its off the top or written or a hybrid (most people use a hybrid to get the freestyle off and there is nothing wrong with that) i really dont think eminem wrote anything for this specifically. you know how many rhymes are bouncing around that dudes head all the time? most of this shit was probably just random bars and shit he has wrote down throw-out his career and is just pulling them out of his head as he raps. witch would be considered a freestyle.

He’s said in the past he isn’t an off the top rapper and regularly recycles verses off albums for radio shows, knowing half the listeners won’t have heard it. In truth people miss the point with freestyles a lot, it’s a demonstration of your level of bars and delivery. Off the top is cool but it is so readily noticeable, 1 or 2 syllables instead of 3 or 4, no compounds and barely any multis, just simple bars often with a choppy flow. Regardless freestyling now is eesntially more about penmanship than it is about skill off the top.
