Bad guy just takes it to the next level, the way he’s able to continue the story, bringing Matthew back and then showing his self-insight in the last verse is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I still don’t understand why he didn’t put out a video for Bad guy it would have another masterpiece 🤷🏻♀️

Her lyrics did fit perfectly; however, her lyrics were not made for Eminem’s Stan. Her song had been published years earlier without any idea Em would take them to this next level. Ironically, Dido name her son, born in 2011, Stan. She claims it has nothing to do with this song... As to Eminem’s Stan...what an amazing story he wrote. I’ve not seen it’s like anywhere. I get that Em is now much more interested in his cadence and his doubles and triples in internal schemes and whatnot...but I’d love to hear another story from him. This is the best I know (I really only heard his first 3 albums). This also highlights his attention to music. I’d not heard Dido at all, but she’d clearly crossed his ears and he found her song to showcase in Stan. He also talked about that Phil Collins song. Eminem is just so aware of what’s going on and can pull so many different things into his music. His rap skills are top notch, but if I’m a Stan it’s because of his creativity and musical intellect...things like Godzilla showcase mad skills and a detailed pen, but songs like Stan blow me away...

When the vast majority of rap was only about "bitches and money", it was a SHOCK for the "corny white boy rapper" who was seen mostly as more "pop-rap" than anything "hardcore rap" at the time, came out with THIS and completely blew every conception about who he was, what he could do, and how much he could "connect with the audience" out of the water and elevated him to a level never thought possible. To make it even MORE shocking at the time was just how many people in and OUT of rap who could relate to the subject matter of "overly obsessed fans". You had people actually talking about people they knew in their REAL LIFE who they were worried about. This track was a masterpiece that actually has gotten BETTER AND DEEPER WITH AGE! (I mean, it kind of shows how much this track really hit when you now have "Stan" in the dictionary as obsessed fan-culture. Name ONE other rapper who actually has a dictionary entry based entirely on the concept of ONE track other than Em. You can't.)

But, his sound engineer (who was smoking a joint at the time) recorded OVER the original verse. The first half of the verse was gone and Em says it sounded better than this one.
