He was beaten in the bathroom at school until he was unconscious on the floor and he laid there most of the day before they found him. He was in the hospital for a while and had to learn to do a lot of things all over again. Things like tying his shoes, read and even how to talk. It's really amazing when you think of what he's turned into to, that in his early teens he had to learn how to read and talk all over again due to, you hear it, ACTUAL brain damage.

(The good news is, I think this is the album you'll like the least...so you can check that era off the list, maybe have a breather, and then get some more bar heavy stuff going as a palette cleanse, lol. I’m still excited for this, but I think revival was so under rated and these first few albums are WAY OVERRATED. Bring the heat, but I bet u Stevie will end up there. Tbh, I honestly think a lot of people who dismiss his recent stuff and say he fell off after TES don't actually listen...it's a lazy take that's trendy right now because hating on Em (particularly for clout and a few retweets) is trendy. If he died tomorrow you know damn well all those same people would be crying crocodile tears on his tears clutching Revival as his "slept on masterpiece". MTBMB is a great fucking album man. My personal favourite albums are TES, MTBMB, MMLP2=MMLP (those 2 change position based on my mood, but I listen to more songs on 2...but 1 has higher highs...) and most of Recovery and Encore. Encore is overhated because he had to rush write 50% that was leaked and the drugs got in the way....but the other 50% is TES level. I was never into the horrorcore element of Relapse but the technical accomplishments on that one are off the charts crazy.

I'm personally not keen on this album overall though so maybe I'm bias, even though there are some who revere it as a classic, I think that's just for the fact of him breaking ground with it and announcing his presence like a slap in the face. Musically I only like a couple, and more appreciate the intelligence behind the creativity and imagination, like on Guilty Conscience. In that way, he opened doors. He always had talent but the difference of this album to even just his next never mind his stuff of today is like different people.

2020-08-13 14:13:35 +0000 UTCBTW this was based on a true story - the bully DeAngelo Bailey really did bash Eminem's skull in as a child. He was left for dead, bleeding out on a bathroom floor. When he was found, he was mid siezure, rushed to a hospital and was in a coma for 10 days. There's a documentary that talks about it with interviews with his mother and other family members. His mother called in 24 doctors for opinions, but they advised her he was basically gone and she should let him die. He woke up after 10 days, but he was brain damaged, unable to speak or control his movements. It was a couple years before he got his full function fine motor control back - feeding and dressing himself, holding a pen etc. He was 9 years old at the time of the attack. That's what this song is referencing....after it was released, the bully actually tried to sue him for a million dollars for defamation. But he accidentally admitted in court that the attack really did happen, and the judge literally rapped her verdict of dismissal right in his face, lol!

They were great when younger for me (in 97 i was 16 years old, so it was the perfect album), yet despite Em's incredible growth, people still point to the first three albums as his best. In popularity.... maybe.... because of what i just described. But in "lyrical, miracle" terms or, to me, more legit rap, I actually prefer several of his more recent albums more than the first three. You would never think --from listening to this album-- Em could drop something like MMLP2 or MTBMB. Now if i ever go back to these, other than a few songs, it's just for memories.
