2020-08-16 13:57:09 +0000 UTCDefinitely. He was a battle rapper for 10 years and you can still hear that element of the style he battled in throughout SSEP/LP. Freestyling was his major strength back then and where he was comfortable. I think the studio environment that Dre provided, and the sense of really showing him what a song was/how it was constructed really helped develop his pen game. A lot of his songs have freestyle verses.

It's lowkey kind of unfortunate he's already reacted to Stan, Kim and Marshall Mathers if he's now going to go for chronological progression. There's still The Way I Am though - up there with Stan for timeless songs. (And then TES takes it up another notch again...at least for me it does)

The first time he met Dre, Dre played him some beats and Em immediately jumped in and freestyled over them. The first words out of his mouth were the lyrics to My Name Is. Dre laughed, so he kept that energy going. They made 4 songs within a few hours that first day alone. All just off the dome.

2020-08-16 13:44:37 +0000 UTCA lot of the tracks on this album were meant to be shock and comedy but he has a few gems in there too.. just don’t give a fuck , still don’t give a fuck, and the first bad meets evil colab with Royce (as the world turner is also pretty funny and showcases his storytelling again )

2020-08-15 22:58:34 +0000 UTCalot of this album was already done before he signed with dre. They just updated it a bit. MMLP is where you can tell he had alot of time to focus on his writing. Early em I feel is more setting up scenes like little movies. He really starts to focus more on the doubles and triples on recovery.
