You have police in the US getting a taser & a hand gun confused and subsequently killing a young black man for resisting arrest. Something has to change before anyone else gets shot “by accident” by trigger happy cops.

I’d love to see a show with you and some white guy who could match your passion and have you be like the lawyer defending the police (when defending is reasonable!) and have them be like the lawyer presenting the very serious case that black people get treated differently. This is one of the most significant issues facing our society today...and I wish I knew what I could do to help move the needle — it’s great to see you commenting on this. But to be honest with what I currently know about the cops in States I wouldn't expect them to be able to work that way than what I expect my local ones do. And that is because our police force is trained to deescalate situations and do all they can to take people in alive. That is not the training they give to these people in States. Other difference is that our cops go through pretty tight selecting process when they apply to study in police academy. You apply to get into the entrance exam and there they cut people out already after first day and if you pass the second part then you get in to study in three year college level program where you don't get to even touch a gun in first few months. I think it tells how big the difference is when our cops got ambushed by two men who made false alarm to get them in the place they were to shoot them. They failed with that though were able to hurt them. But after a chase they were captured alive without being shot anywhere. But that is what is expected in here. It is really rare that cops ends up killing anyone no matter of the situation. It does happen though but it is always the last resource. But that is built into the culture in here. That is not the case in States where the cops are armed like military often without the same training that is given in army. Personally I think it is going to be a huge effort to change the culture around this in States. Because while it is happening statistically more to black it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen to white too. It does. And while I understand that there is need to raise the issue up around it how much it happens to black people I think it loses the sight of it being bigger issue over all. I think it would help to get more people behind the need to get the change happening if it would be brought up how much it happens over all, white and other colors included. Because sometimes it sounds like this happens only to the black people when you listen this conversation. And we know that there is a portion of people who doesn't care is that is the case. This issues is theirs too though they don't understand it currently. But when it comes to it, it is harder to change something that is intertwined to the culture because it is not enough at that point to change just how the future cops are trained, you have to train at the same time everyone and be able to shift their focus from one way to other while the society as whole doesn't change. So you end up in situation where you try to change culture inside culture. I'm not sure how successful that can be.

Not for what fits you or your agendas, but for what and how. Unfortunately the girl with the knife was in the wrong and it cost everything, EVERYTHING!!! The cop however was not in the wrong, this is truly unfortunate. A life was taken way to soon. But had she had not tried to kill someone herself she would still be alive. Plain and simple, truly unfortunate for everyone involved , the cop and both girls. My heart and prayers goes out to all involved!

However, what I can say is that as an ‘institution’ it seems to me that they have created an environment where the ‘bad apples’ can thrive and are even nurtured. I know, for example in the UK ‘stop & search’ is predominately practiced in areas with a large black population. This results in a climate of fear & mistrust among law abiding people. How does this help decrease crime? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

There is most definitely injustice and in many places there is a corrupt system, but as a whole, most of “the police” are solid. Consider there are approximately 61.5 MILLION interactions between police and the public annually. Most cops are doing it right. Those that have ulterior motives absolutely need to be weeded out.

That time could've been spent on using the taser or even a baton. Bryant had her back to him for several seconds. This is combat 101, you have the back, you are in control. He could literally just shove and drag her so the pink girl can escape. THEN, he can draw his gun and try and calm her down. i don't think this is a racist action, it's just poor training and should be an indicator of the need for more thorough training.

Otherwise why bother with tasers at all, just rely on a gun in every situation. If the cops are incapable of using their discretion or reading a situation in a split second then what are they doing in the job in the first place. They don’t have the luxury of being able to take a person’s life, when there is an alternative and not expect people to question the outcome.

Do the research, if she got shot in the leg, what would have stopped her from stabbing the girl once she hit the ground? And then maybe she severs the pink outfit girls artery with that stab. They are also trained to shoot in the chest because arms legs, or head are too small and move too quickly and drastically reduce the odds of landing the shot, then what if he misses the leg shot and hit the girl in the pink outfit. 100% trained to eliminate the threat. This is a very sad and unfortunate story. I fully support police reform and BLM. At the end of the day, black, white, Hispanic, or Asian, if you run up to stab someone in front of a police officer, you will be shot and killed. Period.

That being said, my older sister is half black and like Eminem said on the song Zeus: “black people saved my life from the dark”. I’m so tired of seeing the amount of divide we are allowing the media to cause. I’m not blind to the fact that these things are happening and the cop that killed George Floyd is a piece of shit and hopefully gets what he deserves. But I have also seen videos of police shooting white men with knives. Yes they tried talking him down first, but he was also several yards away from anyone. He wasn’t in someone’s face with the knife reared back. I believe this officer appropriately handled the situation, especially with the very limited amount of time he was given to respond. People also keep mentioning the fact he didn’t try to use his taser. I used to be a correctional officer and I can tell you I’ve seen SEVERAL people get tased and rip the prongs out and were completely unaffected. Plus the prongs are never guaranteed to penetrate through clothing. We were also told you never meet a lethal threat with non-lethal force. Another hole in charlemagne’s argument is the marksman thing. I’m CURRENTLY serving active duty as a combat medic with the USMC, and marksman is the absolute lowest qualification on any firearm. Lowest to highest it’s not qualified, marksman, sharpshooter, and expert. Personally I’m expert qualified on the 9mm pistol and AR-15(M4) rifle and I can tell you that it’s so beyond easy to qualify marksman. Just make sure most your shots are anywhere on the target, not even center/bullseye. Like Stevie said, they should’ve studied the situation more and looked up what it even means to qualify marksman. They legit made it sound like he’s whole ass dead shot from suicide squad lol

Everything you said was correct. 4x is not a lot when it’s a life threatening situation. Now if it wasn’t life threatening then yes that’s excessive but that girl was about to stab her I’m sorry for her mother but that cop did his job. Now I’m not gonna go far and say She DESERVED it I think Stevie might’ve over spoke when he said that cuz the story is that girl was getting her ass kicked by 4 other women who also had weapons. So that girl called the police grabbed a knife and was protecting herself. It’s possible and likely that the girl who was getting jumped never even saw the police there because of her own adrenaline running. I been personally in situations where I was in fights or getting jumped and police arrived to break it up and I didn’t even realize they were there grabbing me and everything I was still tryna fight so that girl could have not even realized it and was still defunding herself. That’s her right ! But the cop isn’t wrong because he didn’t have enough time to figure out who was the bully or aggressor and who was the victim so he did what he had to it’s just unfortunate that the girl died. He didn’t have enough time of course he pulled out his gun first he had to so ppl need to stop saying why didn’t he use a taser. Cops pull out guns first they should and once they realize it’s not a life threatening situation they can put it away and use their taser if they need. That’s fair.
