So you say the song's main purpose is about unity and the stereotypes, and so does Calhoun, right? Okay cool let's run with that. So could he have made the song have the same message about unity, without he himself saying that word? Second question, could he have said "that word" in the song, without coming off as basically definitively racist, if the songs theme didn't seem to be about "unity"? These two questions are what lead to my opinion, the song wasn't really about unity, that's just a clever coating, it was about his freedom of speech more than anything else, sandwiched in this message of unity, and that's my issue, he could have done the song without saying that word and had the same (read: better effect, let's be honest, where's this supposed unity he was goin for? surely not in this comments section...) effect. You can never prove intent so we will never know, but that's my opinion on the matter, it makes the most sense IMO.

I don't know how things are where you live but in the northern states like here in Kenosha Wisconsin we simply don't have white on black racism period. For ever Jacob Blake there is a Michael Bell only in modern society the Michael Bell story won't see Mainstream Media because it doesn't fit the narrative. For every George Floyd there is a Tony Timpa, only Tony's family will never receive a $27 million dollar settlement by the city or have rioters burn down the city as in both Blake and Floyd's deaths. The reason that there are a lot of white people today born after 1980 that truly don't understand the offense caused by that word is because black people today born after 1980 haven't had to live through any of the racial oppression that gave that word (with the ER) the power to be offensive. In this country freedom is freedom and no person should receive different benefits based on the color of their skin yet white people are the only group that get disqualified from many government subsidies simply based on our skin color regardless if we live in the same neighborhood and come from the same economic lower working class households and we are just sick of the double standard being used today in society.
