RIOT FOR ME INTERVIEW WITH BURDEN

That victim-narrative virus is more contagious than the 'Rona!

Kim Mahan

Honestly I find it interesting how many white people want so badly to be oppressed now

Jeff W

I also have to add that I don't/won't advocate storming the house. We've just got to wake up and stop letting these tactics work. "Hurt people, hurt people. Healed people, heal people." What I see in the music coming out of all this next generation of white rappers is a lot of pain. Flipping the script and making the cracker the demon and the slave the hero just repeats the same mistake, but doesn't address why those in power feel the need to pit us against each other and that all of our lives are expendable. We rise up when we get to the point where we can all stand up and say - what you're doing to my brother (or sister) of another color is wrong and I won't stand for it. Just a humble $.02 from a grateful GenX grandma who was lucky enough to survive/work my way up and out of the hood. I loved Stevie's reaction to these most recent videos, which were authentic and honest. He noted having to check himself, and how much power that word has, in the case of Adam's Racism video. We still have a lot of work to do. I also applaud Adam, Burden, et. al. for having the courage to tee-up difficult conversations. In this case, I feel like the intent of the song was to be respectful/constructive - as was the reaction, which said - yeah, I can't go there bruh. This makes me feel a certain way. What a wonderful example of strong, grown men trading ideas and "Agreeing to disagree" respectfully.

Kim Mahan

Very good information there, I learned a few things from your post and the article too. Thanks for sharing.

JAAB

Entitled because I don't believe the moon is cheese. What are you, the new Jussie Smollett? They wouldn't say that to you at Louis Vuitton in Louisville Kentucky, and definitely wouldn't say that to you in San Diego. "There's nothing here for you bro", yeah man definitely sounds like something a security at a business would say. Goofy ass. What you think you're the first black man to go to Louis Vuitton in SAN DIEGO? Get real bro, that's not the hill to die on.

You may want to go do some myth busting and fact checking instead of believing facebook memes. It is a good thing to learn to do fact checking in this current world where a lot of misinformation is spread. It usually does not take much time either. Just type the claim on google with the words fact check and you almost always find the answer. Here is some myth busting for now and the link to the whole article can be found at the end. Interesting stuff though I have to admit. Learned something again today. The claim that Irish people were enslaved in the British American Colonies stems from a misrepresentation of the idea of “indentured servitude.” Indentured servants were people required to complete unpaid labor for a contracted period. “While the majority of Irish people who became indentured servants in the Colonies did so willingly (why they felt they had to so is, of course, another question), a not insignificant number were forcibly deported and sold into indentured servitude,” Liam Hogan, a librarian and historian known for his work dispelling the Irish slave myth, told Pacific Standard magazine in 2018. Many indentured servants in the British colonies were working-class white immigrants from the British Isles, including thousands of Irish people. Indentured servants were often treated horribly by their masters, many dying before they were set free. “During their period of servitude, their treatment varied widely. Some suffered extreme violence and brutality, especially the Irish in the Caribbean, but many had avenues to pursue legal action against their masters, something never extended to the enslaved,” Matthew Reilly, an archaeologist who has studied white communities in the Caribbean, told USA TODAY. Irish servants versus African slaves Crucially, indentured servants were considered human beings under the law. African slaves were seen as property rather than people; Africans were racialized as Black to cement this enslaved status as permanent, inheritable and justifiable in the natural order. "An indenture implies two people have entered into a contract with each other but slavery is not a contract," Leslie Harris, a professor of history at Northwestern University, told the New York Times in 2017. "It is often about being a prisoner of war or being bought or sold bodily as part of a trade. That is a critical distinction," she continued. This lack of legal and social personhood, as well as accompanying racist ideologies, let slave owners justify the many horrors inflicted on African slaves at mass scale. Millions of Africans were shipped to the Americas and forced into unprecedentedly cruel conditions, both in terms of scale and severity. “The challenge in this discourse is identifying what (slavery) means in the past and the present,” Hogan told Pacific Standard, again noting that the subjugation inflicted on many Irish indentured servants may qualify as a form of slavery but was not comparable to the chattel slavery experienced by millions of Africans. Irish indentured servants who were brutally mistreated were keenly aware of that fact. “The rights that servants could claim in Barbados were often muted in the face of social realities and their relative powerlessness in the face of a judicial and legal system that heavily favored the planter class but there was no mechanism, legal or customary, whereby any slave could petition the governor or legislature of Barbados, let alone the English/British parliament, for anything,” Reilly and his co-author Jerome Handler wrote in a 2017 study. “In fact, slaves had no legally recognized rights. They were regarded as private property over which owners claimed absolute authority, a fundamental characteristic of slave status in all New World slave societies,” they continue. Whole article with the links to the research they based the whole article can be found here: https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2020/06/18/fact-check-irish-were-indentured-servants-not-slaves/3198590001/

It's quite ironic to me that a lot of the people that *seem* to hold personal freedom in such high regard...are the same ones that are so quick to say "everyone should just cooperate with officers" yet it is literally in our Constitution that you do not have to cooperate with law enforcement in any way if it infringes upon your rights. (4th Amendment btw The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.) You seem confused and holding conflicting ideologies, care to elaborate on your feelings at all? Why do you hate the Constitution out of curiosity? Because that is essentially what you are saying, you do not believe in our rights, you believe a police officer's job is paramount to everything else and our job is to cooperate with them, even though our own Constitution says otherwise, so please, I'm all ears. Just to make it clear, I'm not talking about one incident I am talking about what your message says to me, and it says to me "I disagree with the Constitution of the United States", please correct me if I'm wrong.

JAAB

Who said forcing me,we friendly here yo,calm down bruh..was making a observation lol.

Took me 20 minutes to read it but it was interesting

Reki Snipe

Swanky, first off, appreciate you reading my post and giving your thoughts, (including disagreeing too, I'm fine with disagreement, we aren't always gonna agree and that's cool) and you are definitely free to your opinion, but you don't get to control how others feel my guy, you are essentially telling me how I should feel, no? I do agree with you though that every injustice should be treated as an individual instance, absolutely, I don't use the past atrocities to assume the worst in all of them, I use them to find patterns, and there are very clear ones IMO. Our lives are different, you clearly know things I do not, and I know things you do not, I think that is just a factual analysis (I assume we both agree on that), but my feelings are not based solely in anecdotal experience. I do feel a lot of yours are, namely how you are tellin Stevie how to feel too, I really don't agree with that, you haven't lived in his life, just as you haven't lived in mine, just because you share the same skin color, doesn't mean you had the same lives. Just because I didn't personally take part in these things doesn't mean I can't feel bad for them. If one can feel patriotism, what is the opposite feeling of that? There must always be a balance, every positive must always have a negative. If all we do is feel nothing but blind patriotism, how can we ever hope to do better. IMO we are all to blame for the atrocities our country has committed (and continues to commit) as long as we are not speaking out about them and trying to do better. IMO the way we correct past mistakes is by acknowledging them in the first place, and truly attempting to understand the damage they have caused. So I have to disagree with the idea that my mentality will never help anything, I do not agree that it hurts us in the long term. I honestly think it makes more sense that NOT feeling bad about them at all hurts us more in the long term, but we don't have to agree on everything. But our country has bombed hospitals and schools many times, it has invaded other countries under the guise of democracy while stealing their natural resources (many, many, many times, literally almost all of South America over the last fifty years). Our intelligence communities knowingly lied to us about Iraq being involved in 9/11 when they knew the whole time that it was Saudi Arabia (this is a fact that they have now admitted btw, not a conspiracy theory, it's not up for debate). If we don't take some accountability for these things (because in reality we are all partially to blame for them IMO). And this is really just the tip of the iceberg. Action is important to be mindful of, but so is inaction. To make the conscious action of not caring about or ignoring all the fucked up shit our country does, it just allows it to continue and get worse IMO. So that's why I feel bad about them, because we are all connected, for another human to commit these acts hurts me, now or in the past, I feel pain for the humans all throughout history, doesn't even have to be in America, because that's how I think we move past it, but we can agree to disagree. “We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." ~Elie Wiesel

JAAB

how the hell can you say he is lying about an experience he had..were you there?no,so how do you know hes lying or not?

Beef_Stu

You lost me the moment, you accused me or anyone else for lying about their experience. What makes you think you can say that to me or anyone just because you dont believe it. The rational it must take to tell someone their experience or experiences is a lie is hard for me to wrap my mind around and just screams entitlement.

Gregory Knight

Really wrote a whole thesis 🤣

MimiLoveee♡

I agree with a lot of what you said and disagree with some things you said. The things I disagree with can be addressed the same way. You don't need to feel guilty for something you as an individual didn't do. It doesn't matter what people who looked like you did, it wasn't you and your empathy will NEVER help anyone, it will NEVER correct history, and it will only hurt us in the long term. You cannot rectify immorality with morality, especially if you weren't the immoral one. There is no way to solve this issue as a whole, the best route of action for everyone involved is to treat every injustice as an individual instance, because the past never goes away.

Swanky Banker

JAAB

Swanky, do me a favor and read my post and tell me the flaws in my reasoning, please.

JAAB

You're propagating a false narrative by lying about an experience and somehow I'm the problem. I got a scholarship based on my skin color and income and watch my white friend go into debt for the same education at a university where the only racism is anti white. People believing your lie is entirely relevant because you're using it as a way to convince this dude he can't understand your struggle, but it's clearly the other way around. Even if it were true, you're telling him he hasn't faced the same discrimination due to skin color but he literally referenced a government subsidy that's based on skin color and the best you have is a security guard. You honestly just seem like you're comfortable being seen as the victim when you say things like that. Let me ask you, how far does the pendulum have to swing before we're the compassionate ones? When they're directly paying reparations? I put myself in other people's shoes and wonder how they don't see the irony. "Systematic oppression" is a term used every day in college campuses but the only modern examples of it are being done to the people everyone accuses of doing it. If there were government subsidies for whites only there would be riots and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before people wake up and realize their sympathy is only hurting us all. I'm not here to argue about what did or didn't happen just seems unlikely to me, peace.

Swanky Banker

Your a fucking moron and I’m sure your a white liberal who never had to face adversity in your life stfu and bounce on a big black dick

Trent Larson

Stevie your just spewing talking points!! There were more white Irish slaves than blacks and were treated way worse, your ancestors sold your other ancestors to be slaves!!! Facts the first slave owner in America was black FACTS! Quit playing the victim card, ps George Floyd died from a over dose he had over 3 times the lethal dose of fentynal in his system,he should of quit playing the part of a stereotypical black man by resisting and not cooperating with the officers, in this case I like to say PLAY STUPID GAMES AND YOU WIN STUPID PRISES! Biden is an open racist and pedophile and unlike trump there’s tons of proof that show Biden being his true self,,,,

Trent Larson

You believing it is irrelevant, but clearly you are part of the problem

Gregory Knight

You got racially profiled at LV in San Diego? Big big cap, don't no one believe that bro.

Swanky Banker

King Los is usually something else entirely anyway

Jabba WalkiiE

I am assuming that you finished watching it by now? What did you think about the entire interview?

Amanda Eddings

Big facts, it's all a matter if perspective but u gotta consider others in situations like these

Gregory Knight

im 30 min in so far. be interesting to listen and react to Eminem Untouchable with him. i appreciate his perspective, but at the same time, seems to be lacking an understanding of history and unaware of how things have been/are outside of where he lives. No one would riot for an isolated incident...

cr!t!c

Bro King los - Forgot about Dre. Been watching all the reactions on youtube aint noone able to break it down properly. We need you!!

Justin Thyme Byl

As long as simple compassion is viewed by an alarmingly large part of the global population as weakness and openly attacked and discouraged we will continue this fractured path we've always been on. I was happy to read how you mentioned realizing the harshness of what some people's reality is. So many people seem unable to grasp the consistency of it and the very real feeling of constant pressure.

Mr. Peabody

Couldn't have said it better

Gregory Knight

I really like that you caught yourself a few times and even said yourself that you weren't going to play the Race Card. I also have never given a lot of thought about all the things you spoke about going through - bc it hurts my heart so very much to believe that one race can treat another race like this. I had to pause and shed a couple of tears. Mean people suck so badly. I also feel guilty about being white. I do not see colors and have nothing to apologize for - yet I feel so ashamed and appalled at mankind. You both opened MY eyes, too. I want to assume the best in everyone and that everyone has good intentions and maintains the beautiful hearts they are born with. I believe in us. I have hope, which is dangerous, I know. I will never ever EVER give up believing that hatred will be allowed to take over this world. We are the UNITED States of America. We need to get our shit together - bc if we cannot open our minds and grow, than nothing will change. We cannot have change without growth. We cannot have love in our hearts but hatred in our brains. We cannot talk the talk to our children and then walk a different walk. **Aponst re-reading my novel** I'm not deleting anything on this post. I said what I said and I stand by it. But I in no way ever treated ANY race differently nor do I accept/condone any actions of the people around me that may have. I chose my words very poorly, I believe, when I said "I also feel guilty about being white." I do not. I am proud to be me. And I am proud to be here with you.

Amanda Eddings

Do you feel like anything he said made an impact on you?

Amanda Eddings

Yeah, I feel I opened his eyes a bit

Gregory Knight

Wow. That was pretty powerful. Do you feel like anything was accomplished by the end of the interview?

Amanda Eddings
