what’s going on at the end with madoka is, she wishes to destroy all witches before they’re born. so because these magical girls’ soul gems became grief seeds, there was no coming back to life for them. what madoka does instead is she takes their grief and despair so they don’t become witches and allow them to pass on peacefully

2024-08-06 13:45:38 +0000 UTCIn the end, the reason Sayaka is dead and Mami is still alive is because for Mami she died from a witch, but they don't exist anymore so in the new timeline she never died. Sayaka is dead because she became a witch due to her despair. But because witches don't exist anymore, I assume Sayaka dies from her soul gem just shattering, because the events with her wish and her becoming depressed will still play out even in the new timeline.
