Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie - Rebellion

Comments

Basically, at the end of rebellion, Madoka is already God of the universe. That's been established when we see Homura was trapped in her own witch's labyrinth this whole time. When she breaks out however, Homura is left, and is quite literally the last magical girl to be saved from the cycle. Madoka goes to save her with the help of the other magical girls that she's saved through the cycle. However, Homura loves Madoka, and wanted a piece of her power to remind her of Madoka forever. She wanted to be closer to Madoka. Well, Homura was able to separate the memory that Madoka is literally God from the memory of Madoka before godhood. Homura recreates the universe for the second time under her own rules and explains that her soul gem is not corrupted with hate, but something more inexplicable; love. Is Homura is now the eternal God of this NEW universe. All the magical girls have their memories wiped except Sakura, who then has hers wiped as well. This whole world that Homura created was simply to be closer to Madoka. She just wants to be close to Madoka again. All of the magical girls in the new world are still the same, but they have the memories of them being magical repressed. The very end is when Homura realizes that Madoka is starting to realize something is missing. She remembers somewhat that she used to be literally God, and that she has a duty to fulfill. Homura stops her because she's going to lose her again, and knows now that without the Kyubey's and witches, there's no balance of energy in the universe. This means Madoka, being the force of order and good, will eventually wake up and become that force again, which is destined for eternity to counteract Homura, which is the force of chaos and mischief. Homura realizes this and this dialogue follows; "Homura: Madoka Kaname. Do you treasure the world you live in? Or would you break its laws to follow your heart? Madoka: Well, I, I, uh... I don't... I, I mean yes. I do treasure this world. But I don't think a person should go and break the rules just because they feel like it. Homura: I see... Well, then, I suppose, one day, you will also be my enemy. It's fine. I don't care." This is where Homura realizes that it's inevitable that they will fight for eternity when she remembers her godhood. The FINAL scene with Homura dancing under the moon with her soul gem is just a dance, but the chair with the half mountain means that her other half is missing, Madoka. Homura is still the only godly force, and therefore Homura is incomplete and the universe is out of balance. All throughout the series, Homura just wanted to stay with Madoka, and she got her wish, or soon will after the events of Rebellion when Madoka remembers godhood. They'll be the only two who understand each other in the immortal coil of the universe for the constant struggle of chaos and order. They can never be without each other, but against all love or desire, are destined to combat each other for all of eternity.
