Mama odie is the shadow man’s mom and the snake juju is her husband (his dad) mama odie quoted “it don’t matter what you look like” while scratching jujus chin. He’s also toothless and shadow man wears his teeth around his neck bc when they split as a family ( shadow man turned to dark voodoo ) he turned him into a snake and took his teeth. (This was confirmed by the directors as the scenes were cut) I’m from Louisiana about 2 hrs from New Orleans and visited frequently, VOODOO and HOODOO and all the above is definitely real and you’d be surprised how common it is for strange things to happen just like in this movie. So glad you enjoyed this classic. Although the first black princess was a frog for the whole movie. It had the best undertones and lessons.
