His backstory is insanely well thought out. You’ll be going “OH SO THATS WHY” multiple times throughout the prequel. Also it has our sista Viola Davis in it so that’s all the reason right there.

It really could never have been him that Katniss chose, partly because the movies exaggerated how romantic their relationship was, and partly because Gale is representative of what happens when you let anger fester and come to the conclusion that violence is the answer to everything. I mean, Gale goes through a LOT - especially with the bombing of 12 - but he also can't see a way forward that doesn't involve violence, and that's the difference between him and Katniss.

2025-04-01 01:56:30 +0000 UTCSome things now that you've finished this: 1) The bombs that killed Prim technically WERE Gale's. We see him and Beetee come up with them while they were going to 2, Katniss calls them out on it bc the intent for it was so cruel, but like u said, Gale lost himself to war and revenge and went along with and created it anyway and Prim died as a result, even if he wasn't the one who sent the bombs. That's why Katniss didn't want anything to do with him after. 2) it wasn't mentioned in the movie, but in the book, after she killed Coin, she was locked in a room like a prisoner for "treason" I think for a while and had tried to kill herself by refusing to eat the food she was brought and starve herself to death, obviously unsuccessfully. She legit did not want to live after Prim died. 3) Gale represents war, Peeta represents hope. Katniss was always going to choose Peeta.

Such as how evil coin really was in the book, im sure the movie removed this to sorta keep the surprise of katniss shooting her, but in the books district 13 seemed like a second capital with coin being the flip version of Snow, kinda like extreme capitalism vs extreme communism. I feel like i could write literal paragraphs about Primrose, the way she literally started everything with katniss volunteering just for it all to be pointless in the end, she lost the one person she really cared about, her name literally signifying a flower that dies immediately after blooming, her probably not knowing katniss was even alive until just before she died etcccccc

2025-04-01 01:49:15 +0000 UTCI'd say the prequel is definitely worth a watch for Snow's backstory, it also gives a bit more light to Tigris (the lady with all the tattoos) as she plays a fairly large role in Snows backstory. The only thing i will say is the books do provide a much better insight into the story and psyche of Snow because its obviously easier when a book is written from Snow's POV than a movie from a narrators POV, with the book adding alot of insight into Snows gradual descent into the cold tyrant he is now as it includes all his paranoia's and manipulative thoughts, whereas in the movie it does seem to kinda come out of nowhere. The book also adds and interesting element with Snow being an unreliable narrator which leaves alot of questions about how accurate the book actually is to the 'truth'. But overall the movie is still great as it really fleshes out snow, making it interesting to rewatch the previous movies
